Mystery warning light flickering

Hi everyone.

I have a flickering warning light on my GS that I can't figure out. The exclamation-mark shaped warning light in the bottom left corner of one of the center dashboard sections has started flickering and sometimes flashing. This is on the panel that has warning lights to show which doors are open, as an exclamation-mark shaped warning light.

Unfortunately the owners manual doesn't mention what this light is for. Currently it flickers frequently when the car is cold, occasionally flashing, but becomes less frequent as the car warms up. Pretty much goes away on the motorway. The car feels fine; stops and tracks straight, suspension normal, steering normal etc. I quick visual inspection doesn't reveal any problems either.

Any idea what this might be? Or even what this warning light is for?

Brake pads?

Yep brake pads. If it's like the 3200 there is only one, front nearside. Mine did it was build up of muck, stripped and cleaned all good. As an aside, it seemed to be worse if the wipers were on!

Do you mean the brake pads are simply dirty, or worn out?

Front nearside brake pads could be worn out to the point of activating the wear sensor, or the sensor cable gone to ground else where

Sorry, it was a dirty connection in the sensor cable where it plugged in.

My 4200 did this recently, fluid level was low. Probably worth checking this first.

Brake pad wear sensor or low fluid warning:

It switches on when the front brake pads reach the wear limit or the brake fluid level drops below the minimum level. The operation of the warning light can be checked by pressing the button on the brake fluid reservoir cover located in the engine compartment.

Might also be an electrical gremlin with either the float switch or the wear sensor

When I returned from Cambs recently I parked up in my garage and got out.
For some reason the hazards came on and the alarm started. I shut the door and locked it and everything fell silent. All ok
The next day as soon as the ignition came on a little yellow light on the central dash illuminated saying attempted break in (or something like that). It went out when the engine started and has not returned.
I was just not aware that such a light existed
