Hello all, just wanted to introduce myself as I am looking for a GT S. After much deliberation between the Auto and MC Shift box, I have decided to go for the MC Shift.

Having a young kids means I will be selling a BMW Z3 M Coupe as I do not get to use it given it's a 2 seater. I appreciate the GT is a completely different car/drive, but I love the looks and the NOISE!...so time for a change.

Great forum here, with masses of information to guide me, thank you!

Any thoughts on this car:

Does anyone know the car?

Mods - pls remove link if links are not allowed

Cheers,

Toady aka Sam

I had one, loved it, great car, MC Shift is 100% the right choice for me so I think you have made a great choice.

The car you have shown could be had on the private market for around £46k but I would advocate getting a dealer warranty with the car so recon if you can acquire the car for £50/51k you will have done well.

Things to look out for, check for a ping coming from the rear when you have gone from reverse into 1st then as you pull away...worn driveshaft splines.

Front parking senors fail quite regularly and have a check on the AC pump is not leaking as this is massively expensive to put right and can cause other issues if left.

Brakes, get the car up to 100 plus and stamp on the brakes and also do it gently and check for vibration as again, brakes are stupidly expensive, although Giallo now has an alternate product.

Check for pealing trim, seems to affect the dash, glove box lid and the panel to the right of the steering wheel with the buttons on it.

I have heard of some variator issues on that 4.7 but I dont think I have heard of a clutch change to date which is impressive.

Other than that, all the usual wear and tear stuff and I have also heard of the electrics having a few paddys especially with the Nav/Audio unit, but on the whole, no real horror stories and with a main dealer warranty you should be fine.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Conaero - thanks for those pointers, I have put them to the dealer and am waiting for their response. Hopefully the car is in good shape.

Has anyone had any dealings with JCT? Service from main stealers is usually appalling in my experience.

Does anyone know of/or have a private car for sale? Nothing in the classifieds...

Hi Sam,
Welcome to the forum, you won't be sorry you joined, it's well worth it and a great bunch of people..!! I don't live far from JCT 600 in Leeds, I have only ever used them for parts, as my experience of some main dealers has not been good. I don't know which part of the country you are in, but there are good Independant Specialists all over most of the country - there is a thread on here listing them. If you have a warranty with the car, you will probably have to use the dealer..!! If you don't want the warranty negotiate the price down..!!

Sorry just noticed you said London..!!:battered:
Cheers

That's the only issue if the car has a warranty, having to travel 200 miles to Leeds to get it serviced etc..!!

Nice stay in the Devonshire Arms?

The Maserati warranty is valid at all their dealers so no issues.

Quick question pls...

What's the consensus on the alcantara seats? I cannot decide whether to go for full leather or the alcantara/part leather. I found the leather a bit 'slippery' and on the flipside I am not quite sure about buying a Maserati with fabric seats. I read somewhere that the alcantara interior was a more expensive option??? Is that right? So does alcantara command a premium price on resale?

Many thanks,

Sam

Morning Sam,

I can't comment on the GT seats, but my GS has black alcantara seat back and pads with black leather trimming. The seats are much more comfortable that the previous all leather seats on my 4200 and the alcantara has remained in perfect condition. The seat design is different to the 4200, so the comfort is also a consequence of this, but I'd very happily have alcantara seats again based on my experience.

I believe Alcanatara was a no-cost option, and I've got it on mine. It was the alcantara headlining that was a £1000 option. Popular opinion ( including mine) is that the alcantara seats grip you a bit better when pressing on.
Certainly doesn't cheapen the interior in any way.

Hi Sam,
Alcantara seat inserts were a no cost option (as sjc said). Personal preference really, doesn't seem to affect resale values but the alcantara certainly holds you in better. You can find some great colour combo's with this as well, something that I've not seen with all leather seats. Headlining was an expensive desirable option. Good luck with the search.
Cheers Blu

Hi Sam,

Big warm welcome to the best Maserati forum in the world. Quick response ahead of more details. Alcantara is great. I have it and recommend highly. Give Nareman at Nuvola a nudge - absolutely top man and fanatical about quality cars and exceptional service. Richard Grace is of the same mould but Nareman is Shepherds Bush, so handier for you. What part of London are you in?

Cheers,
Adam
