Good afternoon everyone,

I am delighted to have recently purchased a 2003 4200 GT, originally HX03 GME (does anyone know the car??)

I took it for a drive today and drives very well. I have a service with a reputable indy next week and ordered new Michelin's all around; hoping to keep it a while :) - it is a low mileage 40k example and in stunning condition.

On the drive and very soon after I pressed the sport button and downshifted (at very low 5mph speeds) the car cut-off. I decided not to try again and just drive without the sport button and it worked brilliantly for the journey (including a 1 hour stop and start again, no issues whatsoever).

I am reluctant of trying the sport button and cutting off again, noting breaks became very tricky and steering wheel heavy to control.

Does anyone venture a guess on what this might be? I want to get it sorted next week if something required but wanted to ask all the specialists here first :)

Thanks all

Our Spyder dies in the same way. Probably in sport and usually when warm and at the most inconvenient time! No idea why

I had a brand new Xsara VTS back in the day that did the same, normally as you were braking hard for a corner! Back to dealers numerous times and could find nothing wrong.

If it's warm could crank sensor, but should happen in non-sport as well. Ditto a bad battery connection.

Personally I would get a code reader, scan it. Clear it and see if anything comes back next time (if there is a next time)

Thanks - it was cold still, had driven less than 1/2 miles or so

I had it on a code reader before buying and no codes to be seen…no lights came up or anything this time around but will ask the garage to check next week

Welcome to the mad house.
where have you sourced the Michelins from assuming they a pilot sport 4s as I am struggling to find any in the size or even 275 for the rear.

I think it was 265 35 18 rears and 235 40 18 fronts which replace the ones on the car, assumed these were the correct size. Are they??

Yes that’s the correct size but you can go up one size on the rears apparently as that is the only size available in Michelin pilot sport 4S which is the best, 2nd best is Goodyear F1 super sport which is available in the correct size and is a few pounds cheaper.

Just to update, used the car today several times and for about 40 miles with both sport on and off and no issues to report, worked beautifully
