A 4200 can have a smooth change if set up properly or a dreadful one if not... a new clutch can transform a car.

You shouldn't have to lift off to make it smooth, I don't have to lift off. Maserati officially state you should not lift off when changing gear.
Thanks Mike,
I think I lift almost subconsciously after 40 years of manuals! I sometimes drive an auto BMW and find that a bit weird initially. Only done 80 miles in the GS in 4 months, but this will pick up when the weather improves. Richard

If you drive a manual with a passenger nest to you, you will see them move back and forth as you change gear as they are not braced for it in the same way the driver is... its the same when you have a bottle or loose object in the car, they move with the momentum [or loss of] of the vehicle.

Same happens on a CC as the driver is not braced in the same way.

With the manual a slight blip on the throttle with the up/down shifts sorts that out.

It's the light flywheel causing the engine revs to drop very quickly that creates the jerky sensation between upshifts and downshifts.

I think it's called "Rev Matching"

Also Thrust Bearing, when this gets old in the manual the clutch becomes heavy while in the F1 it makes the shifts jerky as the TB does not operate smoothly between shifts.

I will admit to being impressed with how well the GS CC gearbox manages to rev match with down blips....
Didnt someone say that of some of the early 4200 CC cars.. a few were subjected to a software "update" ( One that cannot be reversed if memory serves- which increasingly, it doesnt !) I recall this made for some lumpy cars respect the gearchange..?

@OP - my two cents- if you're thinking on a CC gearbox or not otherwise set on achieving a manual transmission or 3200 perhaps, I recommend you look for a GS within your budget...
As others have said, the Granturismo reads like something of an outlier in your proposed line-up...!

Correct, although the aim of the updates was to make it a more 'autobox' experience.

I had the original (and best) software and it was fabulously visceral :)

Absolutely correct, I'm on first generation, original software.
If you are new to the CC box, watch the official how to drive the cambiocorsa video. This came with my car on VHS cassette that I uploaded to YouTube many years ago!

Good Luck in your search and with some of the others my favourite was my first the Classic especially if you like driving quickly.

Mine is going into Sportsitalia tomorrow for MOT but won’t be collecting for a couple of weeks, as we are off to Singapore on hols. Matt and Ash know the car well. I’m decided on a 4.7 GT, so I could let her go at £15k - obviously cost me loads more. New clutch <2,000 miles ago, just serviced, all issues sorted by SI last year. Matt can give give full details if interested. It was also owned and cherished by forum member previously

I’m keeping the plate!

Thanks is that GS still for sale ?

Hi Rob,

I think this might be my Gransport. Its still here with me! I haven't really done much about selling her since my post below (still not completely convinced I wont regret it)
Its off to SportsItalia this weekend for a fresh MOT and a few bits. Stunning condition and all the important bits have been attended to very recently. Here is my original post with details.
