Newbie Intro - Anyone Gone From an R8 to a Stradale or Reverse?

Hi Guys

Just joined the forum so thought I would do a quick intro.

Currently an Audi R8 owner (2009 manual) and as the title suggests, I have an R8 which I love but doesnt get used as much as it should do - 700 miles last year! Thats mainly due to having 2 kids and only 2 seats in the R8, so thinking about a Stradale with back seat option and wondered whether those owning both have any views or not?

Budget would be around £50k to £55k for the Strad so am I into a world of pain at the lower end of the market? Touch wood, had zero issues with the R8 so would be interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks Chris

I never owned the R8 but it was on top of my list before I bought the strad. I drove quite a few, V8 and V10. My lasting impressions of that experience was how good the R8 looked in person, but how bad it always looked on camera, no idea why, and also how it blended in so much more with other traffic. The mechanical and switchgear were all top rate, but I remember some mechanical issues that cropped up with the AC pump that required engine removal to fix. I always wanted it to sound better, too.

One seeing and hearing the strad I was smitten, and bought the second one that came up without ever seeing it or driving it. That was all 5 years ago and still smitten.

Not at all what you asked for, but hey, it's the internet, and we're all experts at xrap free advice!

Good luck with your search.

I have a Gallardo LP560 manual and struggle to put more than 500 miles a year, again due to not being able to take the kids with me. That's one of the reason I bought the GranTurismo, which on the other hand gets used much more. The kids love going for drives in the GT and it helps that its spacious & comfortable.

They are very different to drive so maybe go and try a Stradale.

Hi Chris, as above go test drive one and do shop around… cheapest isn’t always best and could be more expensive… buy from a reputable source and PPI is highly recommended.

I had a similar situation but a lesser budget, my toy was an audi TT which was a great budget trouble free toy but I could only ever take out one son, I played Autotrader top trumps for ages before I decided on the Granturismo. The boys love being picked up from school now on the odd occasion when I work from home and their friends seem to appreciate it too and no longer ask for a hair cut ;)

2 years in and I honestly can't think of another car that seats 4 that looks as good or feels so special.
I like to change my cars and experience different models but have to ask, what else is there for sub £30k that is comparable?

Hi Guys

Just joined the forum so thought I would do a quick intro. Apologies as Ive already put this in the Newbies section but not sure how much that sub forum gets read.

Currently an Audi R8 owner (2009 manual) in the North West UK and as the title suggests, I have an R8 which I love but doesnt get used as much as it should do - 700 miles last year!

Thanks Chris

why would you not buy this though???

ive had a strad and a supercharged R8.
Surprised you’ve not had decent bills on the R8. All it takes is some leaky mag ride or the oil pipes!
id say they’ll be very similar to run. Minus maybe ceramics on a strad

Don't worry about payment protection insurance. :D

I think you should leave one of your kids with your wife and keep the R8. There were two on track Sunday and looked and sounded great

I was wondering what to buy 4+ yrs ago and the Stradale ticked all the boxes. We all agree that the Gran Turismo lines are amongst the most beautiful of all cars and for me the Stradale loads that with the aggressive looks that you’d expect from the model that sits where it does in that range.

The theatre you get from the minute you start it up is what makes it so special, everyone comments on it when you park up or re-fuel, I frequently get the thumbs up from other drivers in traffic or people walking beside the road, it just attracts all the right positive attention.
The noise is on another level and you can augment that if you feel the need to, it’s not a 3 sec car but plenty fast enough and it’s widely thought the actual stats are downplayed due to the Ferrari influence.

The boot takes two sets of golf clubs plus overnight bags and of course the back seats gives a comfortable seat for two children and not terrible for adults so the practicality of the car is immense.
I have never owned an R8 but I have been in both the V8 & V10 and think they wonderful machines but as an all rounder you simply can’t beat a Stradale.

Furthermore think of the number of R8’s and all the non-GT 911’s that are currently commanding silly prices….. apart from the rarity, you get so much more for your money so now must be a good time to buy a good condition, well maintained Stradale.

We look forward to hearing your first impressions of ownership!!!

100% agree with this, finding a cheap Strad is not something that will end well.

I ended up with my Strad as I couldnt find a car like the above at all, and also as I am not patient.

For a decent Strad its more like £65K. (PPI is a must)
Is the 25K difference justfiable?? Same power, not much weight difference.....

If money is not an issue, then the Strad will hold its value better so from that perspective Strad is deffo better

I would have snapped up the above car but maybe not to everyones taste I guess

Masers are great, but I'm sure the Audi R8 forum sing the same praise to thier favored make.... but of course Audi make some great cars from little hatch backs to big executive barges and 4x4s... at least Masers are a little more true to their heritage for the time being.
