noise in the left front suspension (LHD)

If your knocking persists and you have checked all the suspension then you should check the subframe fixings behind the shock absorbers. There have been instances where the welds which hold in place the tube which runs through the chassis break and this can result in the knocking you describe. It not easy to see you need to look at the inside of the chassis, cure is to drop the frame and weld it back up. There was one case before on this forum of MAF's old 3200 having this problem and Gallio carried out the work, McGraths have also has instances of this failure.

A complete shot in the dark here but when I first had my car there was a niggling noise from that area which turned out to be the brake air duct. Was riveted back in tight and problem sorted. Worth a look if not already ruled out.
