Parking sensors developed a fault

Hi all

My Parking sensors seem to have stopped working, and I get a little yellow warning light come on whenever I stick the car into reverse to tell me the Parking help is unavailable.

Is this a common fault? I need to have a look at the sensors when it's light to see if they are scratched or obstructed in some way...

That's the first check. You can get someone to put their foot on the brake in reverse and listen to hear them clicking.

I have a fault with mine at the moment, but bit different that mine was saying it's about to crash. Sensors are available on ebay for about £80 which avoids £60 of Maserati tax.

Bumper off to swap, though

Usually, when the sensors go bad they report an object when in fact there's nothing. You can try and diagnose it with a stethoscope but the quickest way will be to get it plugged into a diagnostic. Will take about 5 mins - I'll do it for free if you're local to me.

That's a very kind offer Voicey - I'm pretty close to being local(ish) to you I think. Aren't you in Chiswick?

I'm about to go have a look at the car and see if I can see or hear which sensors are the problem...

Popped to Autofficina and they hooked the car up to their SD3. Internal front right hand side is the answer - and apparently this is good news as means the bumper doesn't need to come off, and there is no need to paint the sensor.

Yet another reason why I really need to stop taking the car to the local car-wash...

When I picked up my GT in 2015 I had never used reversing sensors before. They gave up the ghost within a month and I couldn't be bothered to do anything about them. As she was recently serviced I thought I'd have them done anyway. Two front ones had broken and were replaced. I drove off and, within 15 minutes, they failed again. Took her back and they (Lancaster) replaced the third front one FOC. The lead mechanic said they go like Christmas tree lights; when one pops they all start going. Strange thing was that they only come on when selecting Reverse, and it was the front ones, not the rears, that had blown. They've been ok since but I still don't trust them! Can't beat a mirror and a head out of the window ;)

You can configure it in the menu for them to be on all the time but they are annoying! :D

Bizarrely, after having had the car hooked up to a SD3, and that confirming one of my sensors had failed, I then went for a lovely 2hr drive around the Surrey Hills yesterday afternoon, and when I got back to the house, and reversed into the garage, the parking sensors were working perfectly. Blooming Italian electronic gremlins!

They do that :)

Yes - can't really be that annoyed, and if it decides to work again then that's obviously good. Now I just need to decide whether I go ahead and swap out the front one, or whether I call Autofficina on Monday and ask them to hold off on getting me a replacement.

I think I might let them order me a spare, and see how it goes this week. By Friday it could be bust again!

I bought a set of 4 Alfa ones for the 4200 rear for about 45 quid. Worked out cheaper than one single Maser one I think.
