power Window unit

Hi - does anyone know if there is an alternative part for the drivers side power Window unit. The metal arm on mine has broken and the mechanic is trying to weld it but if that doesn't work its $1600 from OZ or $800 plus shipping plus tax from eurospares.

Alfa Romeo Spider can be modified to fit. I believe Conaero is the resident export.
