QP v Lambo

Neither currently for sale, particularly. But I am toying with the idea of selling the QP and getting a 4.7 Aston V8 Vantage. Just not done anything proactive about advancing that thought.

As it happens, a buddie of mine called on Friday to say he's thinking of swapping his A-M Rapide for a late DB9 or DBS, so I'm now thinking of a Rapide as well. Plus another pal has decided to sell his late registered 993 Targa, as he bought a different 911 yesterday. So that's now in the mix as well. The Targa is a rare gem, so would be another occasional weekend toy or investment, whereas the Rapide is higher mileage and could simply be my daily. But I'm very happy with the GTS anyway, so no real reason to change.

What kind of money is the 993 Targa Ewan?

Surprised you want to offload the QP though. Not sure I could justify the extra cash on the Rapide over the GTS.

If I had an Aston I think it would have to be a V12. Your only here once

Aren't early Rapids down to about 50k now ?

Ewan your QP must be the best of the best...Such a stunning combination.

Not sure....maybe they are down to 50k. Still 20-25k more than a QP GTS though aren't they? I think the QP GTS is cracking value.

The Rapide is indeed twice the price of the QP GTS (£50k v £25k). But then, it was twice the price when new (£165k v £85k). Both are cracking value now and I'd be happy with either.

The 993 is going to be about the £40k - £45k mark.

I've owned 5 993s including 2 turbos. I wouldn't buy a targa. It's a compromise in lots of way with lost stiffness (oh er) and a slightly compromised roof line. This is why they are 10-20% cheaper than coupes. Best of the bunch, turbo aside, is the Carrera 4 where the mechanical 4wd directs drive to the rear most of the time. It's a great car, super well balanced and fab looking in the right colour.

Holy **** I Hadnt even considered the Rapide, I thought they were 85+
There are some ridiculously nice ones on AT -amazing value.
I imagine my daughter would be happy with the choice watching peppa pig on the way to nursery on the rear entertainment systems.
My wife however would need convincing.
Truly stunning value. Cant get over what amount of car is there for 60k

I'd be happy to stick with the QP GTS over a Rapide. I guess it depends on if you would have any rear passengers. I wouldn't want to be in the back of the Rapide for long. I've be happy in the back of a QP though.

You could almost have a QP GTS and a V8 Vantage or a V12 Vantage wouldn't be too much more.

The Rapide is a lot of car for 50k. It's the one Aston that divides opinion with its looks. Sometimes I think I like it then others it looks awkward....I've been in the back and it was fine for me. The interior is just lovely though.

Would say that the 4.2 Sport GTS isn't competition but the 4.7 GTS probably is more of a car to compare and they are between 40 and 50k. Remember Top Gear put the 4.7 QP, Porsche and Aston up against each other.

Have you ever spent any time in the back of a QP? Both my kids really don't like it! Seats the wrong shape, head rests in the wrong place, not enough leg room.... Mind, they have been spoilt having been chauffeured around in an SMax! However, it's not often that they actually "sit" on a seat!

Outrun is spot-on about the 993 Targa. If you want a 993, the Carrera 4 is the one to go for (Turbo aside - which will be £100k).
The Coupe is the most sought-after in Porsche cars. And of course a manual gearbox (there are 993 Autos out there, so choose wisely). Before contemplating any air cooled Porsche, have it inspected by a coachwork specialist - there are a lot of corrosion issues on rear kidney bowls, chassis legs and numerous other points.
I'd specifically have a classic car restorer coachwork specialist because they will know exactly where and how to look for corrosion and be able to give you a realistic price of the fix required.

If you want to consider a Porsche, I'd say choose a 997 Gen 1 Turbo with manual gearbox (coupe). Price around £55k. Blisteringly fast - like a gut-wrenching acceleration - and the last of the legendary race-derived Mezger engine.

I advise steering clear of 996/997.1 normally aspirated cars owing to a fragile engine if it has not been sorted by someone like Hartech. These cars do not run a Mezger engine and run a wet-sump engine with a raft of issues and fragility.

The AM is more a GT car. The Porsche Turbo is a sports car.

If I were to go for a 911 as a daily, it would have to be a Gen II 997 4S PDK coupe at about £45k. But that is AM V8 4.7 money, which is a more rare and better looking car with a far superior interior. But as something just to look pretty in my garages, and as a safe investment, the 993 targa fits the bill nicely. Far more rare than the coupe and plenty big enough for me. (I've had coupe and cab 993 and 996 versions in the past, and all were great cars in their own ways.) Anyway, I don't need to change any of my cars just now, so will probably stay as is. But a well priced Rapide from a mate would make a nice change, as I've run a QP as my daily for 10 years now (in a series of 4 different cars).

Been waiting for the Rapide to drop. It is a V12. So you kind of tick that box.

Though it is only a 4 seater. And I have been told that the rear seats are some what lacking in space.

I really need to go and see one at that price.

I couldn't find any that are under £65k - £80k.

Where you seeing this £50k?

There is a sub £50k and 3 sub £60k Rapides on autotrader at the moment. Higher mileage than you'd want with an AM but nevertheless, still cheap money for a brand like AM. But boy, it is a HUGE car. Was looking at a Panamera (gen 2) at the weekend and that is a long car too, thought my CLS63 had been a long car but both the Panamera and Rapide dwarf it.

I'd be looking at one of these as an everyday for sure. I want back into a fast German Wagen at some point.
