Question of the day

They previously used the tried and tested finger in the air technique?

Or asked a hot Englishman. As in "what's the temperature out here today"
Englishman "oooo I'd say a world record hot temperature of about 60 degrees?"

Using that method is apparently not worthy of the Guinness Book of records (as they're Irish).

It was disqualified because they didnt measure it in a fair way ? By fair i mean by todays standard method and equipment.

Ok you are all close to the bonus part of the question. The temperature that is the current record was recorded in 1913 when it was the world record. However in 1922 the record was broken well until 2012 when significant doubt was cast on what was this new record and hence the previous record was reinstated. So the unusual fact I was after for the bonus was the fact that this temperature had been world record holding twice with 90 years between the two times.

Still not got the temperature although we are close, answer in the morning

OK so as promised the winner goes to the person with the closet answer and being less than a degree out it over to MLC as the official highest recorded temperature is now 56.7°C (134°F), which was measured on 10 July 1913 at Greenland Ranch, Death Valley, California, USA.

OK, keeping the heat on here's a simple one with a twist. What is absolute zero temperature (zero degrees Kelvin) in Fahrenheit?

Bloody cold is the layman’s answer!

More technically, I think it’s something ridiculous like -260 Celsius, so that would be around -440 ish in Fahrenheit...

Not too far off, although I would have accepted 'brass monkeys' but now we'll just have to go for the figure...lol

Zag is right with -273C.
I think we have achieved -269C but no quite got to absolute zero.
A simple calculation converts -273C to -459.4F
I do not know the twist, - so I will stick

That'll do its actually -459.67! But closer than mine guesstimate for the hottest temperature so over to you.

...Fighting fading light. Someone else please

Try fitting a v.expensive Vaseline shade in fading light - with recent re-wiring by an electrician with his head stuck where, appropriately, the sun doesn't shine, approx. 12' up an old ladder with torch in mouth. Not the most enjoyable task undertaken today.
If I may suggest a quick fire round or two until time, and light, permits Montravia's next Q:

Aldershot Stock - what is it used for and what is made of ??
