Road trip and hopefully factory tour

Next week I am off to Italy in the Ghibli. Nice little road trip planned, with stops in Basel (relatives), lake Como, 2 nights in Florence then down to the family place between Rome and Naples. Really looking forward to it.
On the way back I am hoping to get a tour of the Maserati factory in Modena. I have been in contact with the tour dept, who have responded to my emails and been generally helpful. However... they still cannot confirm (now only 3 weeks before the requested date) that I can have the tour, as they dont know what the factory activities are that week. Has anyone who has done it previously had this sort of response. I suspect its more like they dont have anything to show as AFAIK they arent actually making any cars there at the moment...!?

Hey P R seems like we will be doing the same road trip this year but mine is for my honeymoon :)

Planning on stopping for some museums in the Modena area but I have not heard great things about the Maserati tour (apparently it's a big sales pitch) so I am going to go for maybe the Pagani factory tour and a tour of the Panini motor museum - should be more interesting

This has prompted me to actually send some enquiry e-mails about it!

Edit: Was going to say maybe they are winding down the week before August as no doubt the factory will be closed for all or most of August as are the rest of the museums/factories in the area

They did say that, as its just before August shutdown they werent sure what was going on. Certianly if the tour isnt available I would give the showroom a miss as I would expect a sales pitch!

The Ferrari museum in Maranello is good, as is the Alfa one at Arese, and is literally 2 mins of the motorway

Yes I went last year. Really good. Building has been done up very nicely and some great cars.
Also a bit out of the way is the National Auto museum in Turin. Its a short walk from the Lingotto hotel (old Fiat factory) and you can walk up on the rooftop test track. Loved that.

Got a reply. Due to Factory summer shut down starting the 19th July (Which was the day I wanted to go), they can't do it. They have said latest day I could do would be the 17th, which is no good, or a 30 minute tour of the showroom, which I think as said above would be more of a sales pitch. I might ask if they have an Alfieri (concept) there before deciding...

You have to make sure you get to the Pagani factory. Pisses all over the Maserati tour.

Let me know if you need details.

Go to the Panini museum, it's got more Maserati history and it's free, plus you can get proper balsamic vinegar, olive oil and parmigiana. As it's on the hombre farm. No need to book just rock up, Park up and have a walk around. If you're lucky you might see my avatar.

We arrived at lunch time but Matteo allowed us in and left us to wander around. Fabulous collection .............. a shame someone had nicked an apparently irreplaceable radiator cap from one of the collection.

The Panini museum is worth an hour or two, as is the Lamborgini Museum and Casa Di Enzo in downtown Modena. The best and one that wows is the Pagani musuem and factory tour. Never seen anything like it.

Panini museum looks good. Says you have to book though?

I might be pushed for time depending on traffic getting there, got a 5-6 hour drive, then do whatever museum / tours I can squeeze in the rest of the day...

Honestly you could do three in a day, book Pagani tour in advance then visit Lamborghini museum after before heading the Casa Di Enzo museum in Modena. Why not stay nearer in Bolgona for a few nights, it's a lovely city with some of the best Italian food.

I would like to but the way the trip is I wont have much time on the way back. On the way down doing a night in Como, 2 in Florence, then down to the family place for a bit before heading back. Will do more in that area next time though..

@Contigo did you drive the GTS to the PaganI factory? It says on the website that there is no parking provided on site and I do not want to leave the 4200 parked up on street on an industrial estate. I am thinking to go to the Ferrari museum in maranello instead

There's hardly any parking at the Ferrari museum either, as its always full

I wouldn't miss the Pagani factory tour as its amazing

The Italians don't mess about with parked up nice old cars, It's not in there nature
unlike in the UK were someone I'll put the window in just for the small change in the ashtray!
