Apparently, SM has been replaced in all his roles across the FCA group for health reasons. The news from the media appears to be that he is in critical condition in a coma following surgery. Doesn’t sound good........

Hope he pulls through. It will be interesting to see what happens without his drive behind both FCA and Ferrari.

Marchionne did wonders with Alfa Romeo. The 4C. The Giulia QV. The Stelvio.

Not so great for Maserati though.

A marriage with Chrysler which saw part sharing devalue models such as the Ghibli IMO.

Wish him well.

Really? Perhaps they will make some decent Maserati now.

Always back to this. I spent the weekend at the Silverstone classic. The period between the Merak and the 3200 looked a lot worse than we have ever had under Marchionne.

Maserati are in decent financial health now. Have a road map that includes a two door to replace the GT.

I suppose we’d be happier if they went the way of Lancia instead but retained their integrity.

And from a former Ghibli 3 owner who, I thought, rather liked it when he had it..........;)

That's the thing though isn't it.

Is Maserati really worth having as a diluted shadow of its former self?

I like what they did with the Levante Trofeo though with that big, stonking Ferrari built V8.

More of that please.

Yeah. When did they stop building race cars again? Everything after that is contrary to the reason that they made road cars isn’t it?

Purists are never happy. I’m happy that Maserati are building cars that don’t really make sense. If you want a 4x4 buy a Range Rover, if you want and executive saloon buy a Mercedes/BMW, if you want a sports car buy an F car.

And why can't I say that? They are the Arsenal of the car world at the moment. Great corporate results, no real drive otherwise.

Yes, I heard the same via a friend of a friend who works in the Swiss hospital where he had the op. Poor man, thoughts with him and his family.

Yes and No.

You can still respect your DNA lineage with something remotely performance based and representative of your core values.

The Trofeo Levante Ferrari based V8 is that.

The GranTurismo's Ferrari based V8 at the time was that as well.

The Chrysler parts sharing Ghibli and the proposed new Electric Alfieri? Not so much IMO.

If you want a GT, you shouldn't have to overlook Maserati.

If your that wedded to the historical integrity argument, then part sharing is part sharing and Maserati shouldn’t be sharing parts, eg engines and powertrains with anybody, particularly former arch rivals Ferrari. So your argument doesn’t make sense, unless of course you’reonly into Maserati because of the Ferrari link......

And Maserati announced a Ferrari hybrid not just an electric. It’s the way the world is going, Ferrari included

The latest report is that he suffered an embolism and is being kept alive by machines. Currently there is no hope of recovery.

Regardless of people’s feelings about what he did, or didn’t, do for Maserati it is a shame he couldn’t get to see his retirement.
