Planning underway, final route sorted, we are going to do Mulhouse on the way back after Como as it causes a massive diversion on the way down and we have a lot of driving to do that day.

I suspect we will also do the Premier Inn or the likes on the Friday night as the ferry out will be an early one, sort of 6am:

Sat 22 Calais - Lyon (475 miles)
Sun 23 Lyon - Grenoble - Veynes (130 miles)
Mon 24 Veynes - Digne - Nice (180 miles)
Tue 25 Nice
Wed 26 Nice - Monaco (15 miles)
Thu 27 Monaco - Milan - Lake Como (235 miles)
Fri 28 Lake Como
Sat 29 Lake Como - Mulhouse (200 miles)
Sun 30 Mulhouse - Calais (400 miles)

Hotels are being sourced now so stand by as we will be taking a est £200 deposit per person shortly.

Somehow I managed to get in the convoy that didn’t go to the race track so I want to do it this time around for sure

Planning underway .…
Sat 22 Calais - Lyon (475 miles)

Not sure what your plans are for Lyon but after an early start and a long day I'm guessing not much :)
That said, I can't recommend highly enough the Place Bellecour district - I posted about it last year actually.
Someone commented at the time "There's nothing nice about Lyon" which amused me.
I can't recall who it was but he clearly had his head stuck up his ar*e. The area is wonderful.
I suspect he went charging through the tunnel, with his head buried where the sun doesn't shine, and ended up in a huge traffic jam.
Assuming you'll be using the A6 (there are other, more interesting, routes into Lyon but for a group/convey the A6 is simplest) just take the turning on the right as you immediately exit the tunnel, follow the river then ….

…. within 10-15 minutes you can be parked up in the underground carpark, sitting down at a bar with a chilled lager. Or whatever is your want :)

Cheers and have a great trip.

I usually stop with friends tbh but on occasion when I've passed through I've stay at the Sofitel.
Very comfortable - plus a friend's Dad used to run maintenance there. Everyone owed him a favour!
You should see his house - full all the things he "couldn't" fix :)

I believe the Royal on the corner of Bellecour is also good but I've not stayed there.
Again, tbh, I think you'll be okay wherever you stay. It's a nice part of town.

As for bars, etc, you'll be in your element - so many to choose from.
We like Espace Brasserie, on the square (Piazza Charlie) or Café Jacobins - a 5 min. walk.

I'm really sorry, but I think I'm going to have to pull out of this :(.
It's a bit of a dream to drive my car to Monaco, but at least this year I unexpectedly realised my bucket-list item of doing Le Mans.

Maybe better on the 27th to go to boat show? Prices online start at €280 so hoping to beat that

A little update, 4 of the 6 hotels are book with the remaining 2 close.

Once we have this done (hopefully by the end of this week) I will email you all with the itinerary as its changed a little and request the funds to book and pay in full the hotels and ferry. We will do the same and take circa £200 per head extra and look to do the same as we did in Spain and pay for restaurants as it worked so well last time.

Reworked Itinerary (subject to change)

Sun 23 Lyon - Grenoble D85 - Le Lauzet Ubaye BOOKED Hotel Lauzetane
Mon 24 Le Lauzet Ubaye - Digne - Castellane - Grasse - Monaco BOOKED Hotel Columbus
Tue 25 Monaco - Portofino NEGOTIATING
Wed 26 Portofino
Thur 27 Portofino - Milan - Lake Como NEGOTIATING
Fri 28 Lake Como
Sat 29 Lake Como - Mullhouse BOOKED Hotel Du Parc
Sun 30 Mulhouse - Calais

Sunday and Monday will be the hardcore driving down Route Napolean, the same way Harry Metcalf (Evo) went in his Lambo:

There is currently one place for a car and passenger still available...do you want it?
Cheers, but I can't make it - hoping to do Dubai and Abu Dhabi for the GP this year. I was more commenting that it looks like a great trip.
