Spyder?

As some of you will recall, I was struggling for a while with whether to keep the GTS or go back to a GS. In the end I decided to stick with the GTS, but I still spend so much time looking at photos of GS and 4200s on here and elsewhere. I still really want one and think long term I will end up back in a low mileage GS as a keeper.

In the meantime, I have been thinking about running a Spyder alongside the GTS. I feel like I could justify this more than having a GS and a GTS as the Spyder would fulfil a very different purpose, particularly when the better weather returns and I can get the roof off. It would also give me a chance to live with a version of the older car to help decide where I want to be long term. Does this make sense?

There are a few reasonably priced cars around. I have to say I am very tempted by this car at Nuvola.

What do others think of it?

Been for sale for an age....Not that I'm saying there is something wrong with it........Price started around 23k when in first went up and has been coming down every since....It seems at a more realistic price now....I believe its had a respray...It has been spoken about before lots..Its a very early car so no glass rear screen...unless up graded and a bit more scuttle shake than the later cars I believe but Nuvola sell good cars so must be worth a look and I would imagine you could get a bit more off the price.

I like the white paint and blue roof, but the interior colour is odd against the white. As Andy said, possible respray?

As the interior and hood are exactly the same as mine it might have well been blue in a previous life.

Bf I believe came out first in 2004 on the GS......so pretty sure it been sprayed...Very lovely looking car though but still would hunt down a later car though....You can get a 2003 for 17k which has a few upgrades and handled better.......I think.....

It is a respray, but it is a proper respray, you are not unlikely to find much if the old colour.

This is assuming it's the same car I saw at Nuvola 16 months ago. If it is, it looked cracking in the flesh.

Nuvola sell great cars, and if he's had it that long, a deal must be able to be done.

Read loads about later cars being better than the earlier ones, all I can say is they must be good because I struggle to find what could be improved. Less scuttle shake maybe and a glass rear window.

I am really happy with my early car and it currently is getting used as my daily driver which it is doing extremely well.

The white one was for sale when I was looking but not sure about the colour combo

A 2004 and after is supposed to be the best to go for, mine is '03, it has the glass rear screen (good for the winter) but is missing the updated interior (no cup holder) and has an earlier gearbox/clutch software (I think). Not sure about scuttle-shake but I've never really had anything to complain about.

If I were to do it again I'd get a later model, but it was an itch. I'm sure you know what I mean.

Mine too is registered as a 53 but apparently it's an 04my car. It has the later 7 spoke wheels, glass back window and the later software. The software can, IIRC, be loaded into an earlier car. I always thought that the cars with the glass back window had all the later goodies and that the cup holder was a factory option.

Can look ok. I have a 'time warp' XJ-S convertible in stock at the moment and it is white, with a blue hood and a magnolia interior piped in blue. All factory original and it looks absolutely stunning in that colour combination. So I imagine this Spyder could look pretty good too.
