Sticky door locks (central locking)

Hi,

I have the problem like many. It apparently comes from the passenger side although I first thought it was from the driver side. The symptom is the car would lock and unlock right away while using the central locking system.

So far, I stuffed the key holes with WD-40 and closed and opened as much as I could. I also filled the lock mechanism on the inside of the door, since I don't know which part is at fault.

The problem is (temporarily?) solved so like it was said in other threads, it is a good idea to use WD-40 to try to solve it, if not to prevent it. While you're at it, do not forget to put a bit of it in the trunk lock as well, it will then turn better than it ever did :)

Cheers,

E.

WD40 not really the best thing to use on locks, and it's unlikely to solve it totally, but it might give you a small respite.

If you want me to ship a lock unit over, let me know.

I have tried over the years (and apart from wd40) silicone spray. I use it mainly for the rubbers all around the doors, but it's nice for the locks as well. Pay attention not to apply that on windy days, cause then dust will sit on the rubbers.

Autogleam make some good stuff for rubbers, and there was something I think Drew recommended.
Graphite powder is good for locks.

Thanks for the offer, if the problem comes back I will, and thanks to John, I know how to remove the door cards now :)
Cheers

The problem came back, I WD40'ed it again and it is gone. I will probably need a driver's door lock (UK, cause it is the right door for me - my passenger door) soon. I will let you know Chris. I am back into trying to fix all my small issues so I'll keep you posted. That one is not my priority.

OK, no problem. There's probably some reciprocal arrangement we can do ;)

I am sure LOL
Will check this out for you when I have some time. I will be underwater at work until the 19th, the week after I have 3 tough days and I'll be off for a couple of weeks then. I will update you anyway, don't worry. I just need to move this up on my list of priorities because there are many things I have to do on the side ;)

I Had similar issues with mine , bought another lock and stripped down to fit - it was then I noticed the link rods were dragging on the door card and door area - I straightened them to minimise contact and for a few years now all is well .

I guess I'll have to remove the door cards one of these days :)

Had this also. WD40 (lots of it) does work in the short term. But I replaced the two door locks and microswitches to be on the safe side...
