Tempted by a new 2018 Granturismo MC

I haven't been on here for a few years now but since the Granturismo was launched i've owned 3 of them. A 4.2, a 4.7 Auto and a 4.7 S all with Auto boxes.

My last one was sold over 3 years ago and still miss it so i'm tempted to buy another. Is there is a better sounding car at sensible speed that can carry four in style and comfort?

I've always liked the MC Stradale look but wanted the Auto gearbox which has finally come with the 2018 MC.

I've had a brief look and it seems these cars are about £115k which isn't cheap for what is in effect a run out model.

A few questions:

1. What kind of deals are out there? I know there was 10% off a Granturismo and extra 'support' from Maserati and some points.

2. How will these cars be valued in a year or two when the replacement come out? Could a 2018 MC become collectable once production stops this year?

3. The MC comes with fixed rate suspension and skyhook is optional. Does it need the skyhook to be comfortable?

4. Has anyone tried the 2018 Harman Kardon sound system? Is it a big improvement over the previous Bose version?

4. Probably the wrong forum to ask this (!) but am i'm i looking through rose tints and will the car feel dated compared to modern alternatives?

Any feedback gratefully received.

No is the short answer mate!

1. I've heard like 20% off on here, some as low as £90k for a new car talked about, not sure how true....?
2. Hard to say as there is no Alfieri on GT replacement on the horizon, good 4.7 cars will hold their value well if this is true.
3. No, both are good. The aficionado's prefer non-skyhook but try finding one as most new cars are skyhook
4. Nope, it can't be any worse than the BOSE system and the Magnetti Marelli NIT.
5. No, the sound alone will be alluring enough, it may as well have a Fisher Price toy or 80's hot hatch dashboard as you won't give a toss about that part of things :D

It will feel dated yes but maybe that's not a bad thing...Or so the reviews are saying.....

Doubt many sell for 115k and if anyone pays that they will lose a shed load just taking it off the forecourt. Just look at the second hand and demo ones. But most are Sports as not many MC's about. If you look at the performance figures the MC is no different to the Sport now yet you pay around 14k more for the MC body kit....Not sure if you can tell the difference on the road between the two. Set up may be difference but doesn't show in the figures on paper.

I would drive one and see what you think......

If you can get a deal that works on a new one, go for it. If not wait for a lightly used one that will have taken the big initial depreciation hit. The new media system is very good and the Harmon Karden hifi is a significant step up from the Bose. I have absolutely no regrets of buying one, and it is all the better for me for its “old world†charm. Will there ever now be a better sounding car “out of the box

I believe production stops this May so I presume we are now talking about cars with fixed spec? I still love mine, n/a engine, space for the kids and not too many gears to get lost when you drive sports manual which I tend to out of town if it is not raining. Personally I would take a Sport and have the skyhook but I guess it will be down to availability. Your view on discount was how it was for a factory order a few years back. I would guess that physical cars now would be discounted more but then they may have a load of extras you don't want...let us know what happens.

Agree with Rwc13 on the sound straight out of the box. First one I heard was Matts pulling into the petrol station in Chepstow and it just blew me away with the noise. Just perfect and certainly made everyone there turn. I'm in the camp that it's great as standard and doesn't need any help to extract more sound.

As a thought, the Grancabrio MC came with the auto box. It's like a halfway Stradale with the body kit, exhaust, wider front wings etc but doesn't have MC Shift or carbon brakes (unless you found one that someone specced them on). These are around the 70k mark and that's a serious chunk lower that a new one. I suspect that rarity means they will hold value quite well too. I can easily see a cabrio being worth the same as a new MC in 3 or 4 years from now.

Otherwise, I'd say go for it. At the end of the day, you'll get one for low to mid 90s which is same as a 911 these days. I know which one is more special.

Last year there were a few MC cabrios on the market, when I wasn’t looking for one. Now I could be tempted as a stop gap but I can’t see any.

Remember talking to Dick Lovet when they had one in stock and asked if you could spec the carbon brakes and they said it wasn't even on option.

Sometimes I wish manufacturers' would dual run for a while. If the new coupe does not float my boat then I would wish I had bought a run out GranTurismo. Ditto with Land Rover if I had known the complete pile of shite they would replace the Discovery4 with then I would have updated mine with a run out model.

How that design from C pillar back made it to production I will never understand. It’s as if nobody had the balls to tell them how shite it looked.

I am sure that in time the Discovery 5 will be held up as a master class in how to alienate a hitherto loyal customer base. Lots of people I know are keeping hold of Discovery 4s whilst they work out what to have next.
