Tesla vs Ghibli

Sorry to have to make this my first post (i think), but what does Tesla S have to do with any Maserati ? A Tesla S won't make up your mind to drive to a meeting when you have Skype as an alternative but a Maserati will..
Ha ha, great first post Cristian :f8: An excellent point, well made :goodone:

The Tesla does not look too bad a car, but the range has still to be considered as poor, if it could be charged on the move somehow, it could start to be a contender for general motoring..!!
Sounds great getting from Bournemouth to Manchester, but how much longer would it take to get from Bournemouth to Glasgow? ...Purely electric power should be kept to motobility scooters and milk floats.
Fair points. Electric-only cars make more sense for purely short trips in urban areas where there is lots of stop/starting (which ruins fuel economy). Cars like the BMW i3 make more sense in this scenario.

I know it's not in the same category as the Ghibli (a 4 door saloon), so please excuse the continuation of the deviation from the OP, but on the topic of pros & cons of electric cars, this is where hybrids make more sense to me, hence I've got an i8 on order.
Okay, it's a 2+2 coupé not a 4 door saloon, but it strikes a nice balance of everyday usability, great performance (est. 0-60 mph in 4.2 sec.), and excellent fuel economy/emissions (claimed 134.5 mpg and 49g/km CO2). Whilst it only has a 22 mile electric range, a lot of my journeys are less than 10 mile round trips, so it suits me quite well. Plus as I have solar panels on the roof of my property, I can top-up the battery virtually FOC.

Well I have to jump in with a vote for the Tesla here - not over a Maserati though, I'll always love the V8 burble and growl from my 4200, but I do also have a Tesla on order. The test drive was very impressive, it's extremely fast, with huge torque, and the car itself seemed really sorted too. It'll replace our slightly ageing 4.2 Audi A6.
Ben.
Agreed Ben, the Tesla (nor i8) are a substitute for the sound of a glorious V8. Hence the i8 will be more of an everyday car, whereas my GranCabrio MC will be more for special occasions / spirited drives. P.S. As long as the Tesla meets your requirements, then don't let anyone tell you (or imply) you've bought the wrong car. Your money, your choice :D You'll have to let us know what you think of it once you've had it a while. Perhaps Ghibli owners can then do some 'long-term usage' comparisons versus the Tesla.

Cheers,
T

I don't suppose you read my post #3 on this thread?

And Skyping instead of driving to a meeting is kind of the point that the Tesla is making.

I understand your point, you are talking about evolution but when you look at the essence of motoring you see that it's evolving into something that is completly different.

If all one cares about is efficiency then I see the point of Tesla, but Maserati is not abbout efficiency the same way lambos are not built wih performance as an end goal.

Regarding your lakype statement, exactly there is where it stops being about motoring and more about something else.

I like the Tesla a lot, especially the touch control/media centre. I will certainly consider one when the time to replace my 'acceptable in front of customers' car as it is full of great kit, will get me where I need to go and is basically invisible to the general public.
If you think of it as a mode of transport rather than a car it helps overcome the hump that a lot of you seem to be stuck on.
