Apparently that was a question NWales Police have been wrestling with all afternoon hence 1x vulnerable young lady and a bridge closed the A55 both directions for hours!
My usual drive to my mother's usually around 1 hour became a 4.5 hr epic. Via Llandegla Moors!
The good news is that after 3 hours of nose to tail and stop start in 22 degrees sun my 4200 behaved faultlessly (made less fuss than the missus to be sure) and then 1 hour of venting pent up rage over the Moors - brilliant drive. X pipe and no silencers to speak of courtesy of Quicksilver!
Wife doesn't condone lunatic driving so isn't talking to me just now. Good result all round

Every cloud has a silver lining!

Seriously though I hope the woman who closed the bridge is safe and well.

Such a travesty that a person gets to this position
Had it with our daughter and never saw it coming, hopefully the young lady made the right decision and chose life.

NWPolice say concluded safely so assume a positive outcome. There are far too many instances where our health care systems seem to be creaking at the seams. Considering we have NHS we pay less as a percentage of our taxes than many other nations. I for one would be happy paying an extra 1,% tax directly to NHS but no government wants to risk the wrath of the voting public by doing that. Don't get me wrong, I hate paying any taxes, but sometimes you do just have to think it might be an idea

Sounds like a good plan but remember most of that 1p/£ would probably be swallowed by management and admin......the NHS is beast of an administrative monster that just swallows money. If it comes to a tax hike for the nhs then I want it cornered and protected for those workers on band 7 and below (mostly nurses) or even better, link them in to MPs pay rises......robbing b4stards are quite happy getting 5% plus whilst real workers get 1%, which Is Below inflation, again! Bytheby, I am not an nhs employee, but really feel for my colleagues who work there who are sometimes living on the breadline.

I guess we all don't mind paying "worthwhile" tax, however when we can all clearly see waste because of Beira racy and red tape it galls. E.g., my missus got a tax refund for an amount less than the postage, effing barmy.....

Indeed Public Sector pay rises are currently pointless.

After 9 yeas of static pay I was offered 0.5% this year...or 50p per day....yes per day! And thats after a £200rise in enforced pension contributions which result in less pension that can only be drawn in full after working an additional eight year above my now frozen one.

Still could be worse...could be an MP!

The grass is not always greener in the private sector, I haven't had any pay rise in 9 years, state minimum holiday and something like 1% pension contribution, basically worthless!

What not even to match inflation?? So you are actually making less than you did the year before for 9 years??

That's about the size of it. Mrs Catman didn't get a raise at all for about 5 years. New role has it written into her offer letter, which was nice.

I think my raises are just about in line with inflation, but no more.

That is right, no inflation rises, nothing in 9 years.
I think if you work it out inflation is something like 20% over the last 9 years.

But you are your own boss?? You are tight!!

We give pay rises and bonuses. I think we are quite generous.

Yep salary before tax has remained static since April 2008.

Which means my worth is aprox £9k pa less in real terms.

Looks like I'll get a pay rise every year now I've retired, my pension is index linked! I'll only be pence but it's better than nothing.

I am my own boss but everyone else gets paid first so I get what's left. Well sometimes. This month was minus as I had to put some back in the pay last months bills. It's a big constant roller coaster & a ball of fun everyday

I can't complain but I guess if I did what I do for a large company somewhere I would be paid at least twice as much. I wouldn't fancy it though as prefer it how it is. I'm quite fussy & don't work well in large teams or companies of many who don't quite think the same.

I have been tempted to cash in & sell my soul to the London devil but always resisted. In light of recent events I prefer living & working somewhere a little more remote. Don't think I ever could now.

My 2 pence worth, as myself and those who have served have been shat on......again, paid my NI contributions for 22 years as set by Hmrc, then the government decides to downgrade my contributions, so in affect, unless I decide to "inject" something like £12k into my pension pot I will get a reduced amount, however if I had been on the dole all my life I would have a full pension.... got to say it makes the terrifying moment of seeing a hand grenade bouncing past me in Bosnia in 94 so worthwhile.

Initially, froze, shouted grenade, sh@t myself and coiled into a tiny mouse in the corner of the sanger.............and waited......and waited.......nothing, was either a dud or not primed / prepared properly, disposal chaps sorted it out.

Although I work as a 'confused'. (read one man band ltd.) In oil and gas I took a 20% rate reduction when I moved contracts in 2014 and a further 15% cut in 15/16. Then a 5% cut as all allowances and expenses disappeared. So around 38% cut in 3 years. Time to move on (or out). Time to think of a new career. !!
