To the Loire-Atlantique Levante - that was fun

Yesterday I was plodding along the A11 from Nantes to Paris. Cruise control set at 130 kph.

In the mirror I saw a Levante closing on me at serious speed. I was in lane 2 overtaking slower traffic in lane 1, he came up closely behind me before moving to 3 to sweep past me at speed. He rocketed into the near distance then slowed.

I knew he wasn't slowing to have another look at my old Quattroporte, so I was watching curiously to see what was up. As we neared one of those difficult to see grey fixed cameras he tapped his brake lights quickly a couple of times. As soon as he was past the camera he floored it.

I figured he was pointing out the camera, his car had local plates so I presume he had local knowledge, and tapping the brake pedal like that was obviously an invitation to play. I would be rude not to.

I'm not going to say on open forum what speeds we did but over the next half an hour's progress I was able to watch the fuel gauge visibly falling before my eyes. It was a beautiful, dry, perfect visibility day, traffic was light, the lovely French autoroute road surface was perfect - we made good progress. The QP's poise and handling at "motorway" speeds is sublime.

To the driver of that 44 (Loire-Atlantique) silver Levante: many thanks, that was fun. I'm only sorry I had to turn off when I did.

In September my Atlantique will be shooting down to the Loire for a few laps of the Nantes track. If I see a speeding Levante in the area I'll be sure to put up an appropriate fight.
