Ask Marios at Autoshield, it’s only an hour away from them. He’s got the correct equipment and knowledge of these cars. John Pogson at Italia is very well-regarded but they are Ferrari specialists.

I'd strongly advise against going to John Holland. I can't give a full public report just yet, but hopefully (subject to the lawyers approval) will be able to do so later in the week.

That is true, and what they advertise, but they are happy to look after other marques too mostly Italian.
I know John Pogson would travel to inspect an potential purchase, as I spoke to him a few times before I bought mine. In my case with the car being in Birmingham the non Maserati garage I bought mine from (was actually the dealer principles own car) they where happy to drive the car to Grey Paul's for a main dealer inspection. Nothing major found only a leaking cam cover gasket and track rod end, which they where happy to change for me in the deal, so worth the expense of the inspection straight away.

Mario for sure would be the best bet if not too far/£

Enough said i think.

But as said numerous times, you really must have an inspection by someone, who knows what they are actually looking at/looking for!

Ok just spoken to Marios... super helpful chap considering I called him on spec on a Monday morning. I'm going to try and get the car to him either ahead of collection or on the day of sale (with proviso of a return should there be anything major). I guess watch this space...

Getting there slowly... parts for the brakes got delayed and it can't go for inspection until they are fixed. It should have been on the ramps today so all being well it will be done today / tomorrow... inspected later this week... and mine by the weekend!

Rather excited obviously.

Chris - which car are you having inspected? If it's the one from John Holland, I'd advise you to contact me privately before parting with any money. If it's not that car, crack on!

The original link to Autotrader has expired, don't think it was being sold by John Holland, but originally it was proposed by Chris that John Holland be used to inspect it.

Hi Ewan, no it's not the Gransport they have... I had considered if they were an option for an inspection but apparently not. So no fear... it's not going there!

I've only just finished work for today so no update. I will be chasing them in the morning!

Cheers

Not sure what the record time it has taken anyone to buy a Maserati is... but I must be homing in on it now as I close in on the 2 month mark!

Anyway, in positive news, it finally went through a PPI with Supercar Centre in Sheffield today and the overall verdict is good. No issues with the cats and that was verified by scope, compression test, diagnostics etc. so as thorough as can be. Incidentally does anyone know what the reference PSI should be per cylinder on a compression test? They were pretty good but I'd be interested to know how close to standard they all were...

The only thing highlighted with any real concern is that it could use a new set of disks all round. Not a major job labour wise... but I am aware these are quite pricey. Can anyone point me in the best direction of purchase given that the group buy angle seems to have fallen rather flat on itself? As they are serviceable, I'm not expecting to be able to haggle much on the car on that basis... but knowing the exact cost of replacement may help a bit.

Really happy that everything else got the thumbs up though and verified that it was otherwise, as straight as expected. I did note that the brakes were on the underwhelming side so this probably tallys, otherwise it drove great.

Hopefully we will have some decent weather in the next week so I can collect it and perhaps take a detoured route home via a few roads in the Pennines ;-)

Cheers,

Chris

Good news... but you have some way to go to take Mark's (delayed purchase) crown.

Forum disks are still in train, so hopefully your own will last till then.

Enjoy.

I nearly wrote my 4200 off 5 minutes after buying it. I booted it as I got onto the M6 and totally forgot about the cold tyres, cold road, 400bhp through the rear wheels thing and entered the M6 like Carlos Sainz on a rally special stage sideways!
Although it probably looked epic from someone elses car watching, I crapped my pants (metaphorically) and spent the next 5 miles hyperventilating and driving at 50 mph.

Then when I got to the petrol station I had to ring the previous owner to find out how to open the fuel filler! I mean! The glove box! Although to be fair that was the same as my Alfa 155.

that made me chuckle

Seems short to me! Took me a year of research, searching and waiting to find my 4200. Not seen another similar opportunity since in nearly 3 years.
