What happened to all the Brake Discs?!

Hey Guys!

first post here, I've been a Gransport owner for the past 8 months and have very much enjoyed the experience! What a fantastic engine, it must be said....!

However, I've just run into some fairly worrying issues with the car, and was hoping you guys may be able to point me in the right direction.

I've scoured the forum and have established the 550 Maranello discs are the what I need, the problem I have is no one seems to have them any more! (my understanding being that Brembo were asked to stop selling to 3rd parties and only to OEM suppliers...)

I also need a full set of pads (seem easier to source from the alternatives sticky) and finally, I need 2 new rear lower wishbones....

Again, I've usefully found from this forum that the rose joint and control arm can be changed on this, but not the main bearing.

It could turn out to be an expensive Christmas at this rate...

Questions
1) Does anyone know of a place asides Eurospares / dealer where the discs & pads can be sourced at a reasonable price?
2) The lower wishbones - if the main bushing is gone, Is there a reasonably priced option available to us?
3) Do you guys have any recommended mechanics in London who undertake good work with the 4200 / GS

Thanks a lot in advance, very happy to know there are other like minded people on a well organised forum.

(I'm based in London btw so will attend the next Ace Cafe run and say hello)

You came to the right place :)
There is a group buy thread for custom made disks.

They will take a while to get to you though.

Thanks!

I've added myself to the group buy thread but I suspect that may take a while.

The car is currently laid up over whilst I decide on the next course of action.

thanks again.

No one has yet sourced a alternative or repair for the lower rear wishbones...sadly you are in for almost £3000 for both fitted.

Just out of interest what brakes / wears on the lower wishbones , is it the bushes on metal fatigue ?

A big warm welcome Prath to the forum....Looks like you have come to the right place at the right time with the disc group buy. Tell us more about your Gransport, colour, spec etc...Would love to know more about her.

Welcome this is the place for any 32/42/GS owners.

As mentioned above we have all been through the brake disc issue hence the group buy but if you need something quickly your options are few. My recent service flagged the brakes as the next job which I have postponed until the first set of group buy discs arrive.

Thanks for the responses!

I need to confirm that it is indeed the lower wishbone bushes that have deteriorated and not the rose joints / drop links, which again I've read up on from this forum.

I will look up the pads and get them ordered and get the front discs skimmed, and seek out a new set of rears in the meanwhile otherwise the car will be out of use for a good old while (read: too long!)

Re. the car.

I did my research as was initially going for a 4200, but whilst viewing one I saw a GS and really the interior sold it for me!

Loved the sound, the spec, sitting in that drivers seat was pretty special for me and I liked the re-profiled nose section.

TBH I wasn't a huge fan of Silver, probably my least favorite colour, however, once I'd driven it, combined with some semi-patient negotiating I couldn't help my self!

The car has done 45000 miles now, 4000 in my care. I had all the main belts & all fluids changed by the dealer I bought it from and changed the F1 relay and the battery (bosch) in month 1.

The car runs very well, when I bought it the reading on the clutch was '50%', as much as that is worth. I am super careful but sometimes get caught in traffic as I live in central London and I'm sure the clutch will need doing in the not so distant future, however, a portion of that was built into my sales price.

Overall I am very surprised by the GS, my previous car for the past 6 years was a MK1 supercharged Mx5, so very different! The engine is for sure the star of the show but the car isn't without talent, its heavy but predictable and relatively forgiving (I left it for 6 months before switching the TC off at the start of a journey).

I was expecting a point and shoot experience but it's high speed stability has opened up a whole new experience in performance driving for me, and i've had many interesting drives along some sections of road I've been driving for over 10 years in light weight sports cars.

The question that burns in my mind, and I'm sure I have a spread sheet somewhere is, bang for your buck (except for the 4200) nothing really comes close. Power, cylinders, exotica, prestige, look, feel & drive per £ spent probably means I'll be stuck with the GS for a good while yet!

Just a few pictures at the moment, need to dig the rest out..!

Looks like a lovely GS. Couldn't agree more, for the money what else can touch it??

I would add the badges on the sides (near the fuel cap). Appreciate that may not be on the priority list but a good stocking filler haha!

Welcome mate.

Brakes should be a simple fix. All depends on how long you can wait.

www.Superformacemaserati.co.uk have lots of bushes.

I hope you can get your car sorted.

Thanks - just been reminded about this site for mt 3200 winter treatment.
At last we have balljoint bushes and a tool to extract them. Is there a forum tool we could pass around for a fee? Surely only one of us will ever need it at a time?

These rear control arms/wishbones have nearly doubled in price in 18 months and I'm sure it won't stop there if Maserati continue to control supply . Perhaps we need a forum project to find an engineering company who could design and manufacture a cnc machined aluminium replacement with ball joints that can be renewed. It surely must be possible.
