Just a quick note to say that the spyder is now back to full working condition at last!!
After having 2 main dealerships look at the car and 4 give an opinion over the phone they all reached the conclusion that although the car was showing clutch wear at approx 40%,that this figure was incorrect and that the clutch didindeed need replacing after just 15,000 miles.
I decided that i wanted to try Emblem and get them to do the clutch replacement recommended as i was finding the whole "main dealer experience" somewhat lacking.
The maserati dealers didnt exactly do anything wrong (other than unduly cost me money) but they made mistakes that i felt were a little unforgivable.
Anyway to cut a long story short Emblem were never convinced that the clutch was the issue and decided to stand away from the crowd and declaire there independant experienced opinion.
The first removed the F1 actuator as i am told sometimes the bleed screws can vibrate loose a little and this can cause pressure issues. they were fine though.
They then decided to replace the F1 Pump and related works but this was not the fault either.
Lastly they replaced the F1 actuator and this did fix the problem!!
So had i acepted the main dealers diagnosis i would have paid around £3k for a new clutch that was not needed and still have the problem !!!
So In the worth or "currency exchange of maserati garages" One Indy = 2 main dealers and 4 main dealership opinions!!! LOL!

That was the part I believe Loz, as Adam kindly suggested this as a posible cause for my issues.

Glad it's sorted now though Adam. Has been a bit of a journey for you, I know. It's still been, arguably an 'unnecessary' expense replacing the pump though? It seems, as you know I've found, diagnostics are very hard. Also seems to be a trial and error, ie, 'replace and see if that works' approach is taken to be the only practical answer sometimes. Frustrating, time consuming and expensive.

So, are you falling back in love with it, and maybe keep it after all?

Yes Loz that it be...that it be.......apparently mine was "worn" so was not going to the expected position for gear changes.
thats the extent of my limited knowledge.

NB there was a New one listed on ebay recently for approx £1000 but its not for the 4200 and ferrari F430 as stated its very specific to the F430 only and mounts to the engine on the oposite side to the 4200.
so unless you have an F430 in need dont buy it lol!

I will have when i collect the car yes.

Anychance you or I could do some enquiries and see if we can get them refurbed at a re-manufacturing company , i have a couple of places that do similar in mind , they have already done some F1 pumps but will only now do pumps already in good enough condition as some get really badly burnt out ,

I can not believe that any actuator for a car is actually charged out at over £3k, that's ridiculous. I have dealt with numerous quite high tec actuators for different markets all over the world and have never come across a unit that would fit in a car for that sort of money, who do they think they are kidding??? Have you got a photograph of it close up?

1. Diagnose problem

Only when sure do 2

2. Fix it.........

Not good enough by a long shot Adam.......yet again you've run up against MDs who really don't know their stuff.....nor admit to it nor indeed swallow some of the cost.

Shame!

Just goes to show that main dealers just replace parts.

I always used Emblem as they offer such good value over main dealers even though they are not the cheapest...but the best

Thats one of the reasons i would really like to see Myles do really well at Emblem , the guy could re-write the manual twice over and such a smashing bloke to deal with, his knowledge is 2nd to none , the F1 system is hard enogh as it is without the software throwing up multiples reasons for the same problem

True Loz.....this is were someone who knows the car can pluck out the 1/2 codes that need targeted......and can then deduce whats needing fixed.......its an art form gained through intimate knowledge, lots of experience and being truly interested in what you are doing.

your welcome to play Loz but the F1 pump is OK anyway as far as i know it was just not worth the difference to take out the new one and replace the old again (you know the scenario £250 to take it back out or buy the new part for £400 and save on taking it out)(figures not correct at time of going to press). The actuator? sure if you want to get it reconditioned be my guest.
I did get my handbrake done and emblem did ask if i wanted to send them for relining but again i opted for the New replacement as it seemed the right thing to do for any new owner.
It was down to 17% last MOT so with new shoes it should be at around 19% now LOL! what do you need a handbrake for when the peddle is firmly to the metal lol

Loz - did you get any joy going down the Alfa replacement/alternative route?! DL have diagnosed mine as an actuator problem as well at 30k miles with a replacement bill of a smidge under £4k which ain't all that palatable!

Adam - what were your faults?! I've got first & second & that's it. Pump primes, all relays/fuses are good. New clutch with 2% wear.

To be fair to DL Richard has been good re: price but @ £2600+vat+7% mark up (reduced from 10%) after a £3500 bill in April I'm struggling to grow the kahunas to pass this bill through the wife ;-)

Thanks
