Central locking problem - will not lock using remote

Resolved the central locking problem after seeking advice from my local Maserati & Ferrari specialist Garry Tait (GT Autos, Burntwood, Staffordshire). His suggestion was to spray some WD40 into the key lock, putting the key in and then continually locking and unlocking the door. I tried it and after 15 seconds it worked. I wish I'd spoken to him before I spent all Monday morning removing the passenger door card

funnily enough the WD 40 just worked for me - I had already had the lock replaced and it worked for about two weeks - even if this is only temporary, Im taking it as a win - Big day today - fixed aircon thanks to the forum hint regarding poor switch, fixed the lock thanks to the forum and fixed the EOBD thanks to the forum - thanks guys, you save me a fortune and a lot of frustration

Did you ever get to the bottom of this problem. My GS won't lock. I press the remote, the hazard lights flash but the doors lock and then unlock again immediately. I did it on the day I bought the car but a battery reset (and some help from Matt and SF - who had nothing to do with the sale at - just being good folk_ sorted it. Now it's playing up again...

Go up to your door. Lock the doors. Look across in the window (or windows down) and see which door lock isn't working by locking it. The car automatically unlocks the doors if one of the door locks is malfunctioning, it recognizes them not being sync'd when the door locks are triggered together.

Hi David and Happy New Year!

Just wondering if you ever got your central locking problem sorted as I've got something very similar on my 2003 4200 Spyder. Having just replaced the failed driver's door lock, I'm left with everything working again except remote locking. The key remote arms and disarms the alarm, and unlocks the doors, but won't lock them. I had passenger footwell flooding several years ago - long before these recent problems so unlikely to be the cause I would think. I've checked fuses and reseated relays, as well as a battery reset, and tried the repeat remote activation with door open trick, to reset the system but without success. I can lock the car with the key in either door, but wonder if you got to the bottom of the problem with your car?

Hi
The latest on this one is ….. no progress!
I traced signals back through the window lift control module and that was fine, pulled it apart to check for any signs of damage and it was like new inside.
So, armed with the wiring diagram, I traced further upstream to the alarm system control module which lives behind the side panel of the near side back passenger seat.
I removed this and on the circuit board there's a single relay which can be heard to click on the unlock cycle but not a thing on the lock cycle. The alarm sets and unsets so I know this is receiving a signal from the key ok.
My final thought is that the relay on this module isn't switching over on the lock signal. The alarm control unit gives out a signal to set / unset the alarm and on another set of pins, it gives the lock / unlock command to the window lift control unit, which in turn gives the lock / unlock signal to the central door locking command module which sends the relevant signal to the door lock! Talk about complex.
Without access to a replacement alarm control module with paired keys, I'm now stuck.
So, if you are experiencing the same symptoms, I'm sorry to say you've probably got the same issue.

The lights flash as the alarm activates, but no attempt made to lock the doors, no sound or movement at all...

Hmm that is odd.

Does the central locking work when you use the key? I'm assuming yes?

My best guess is that there is something wrong with one of the connections from the alarm unit. 'Normally' there's a lock and unlock either as two different connections, or as different polarity on the same cable. Not sure what the 4200 uses but I'd *guess* the different signal cables.

Hopefully Voicey or one of the others will be able to chip in with more detail.

hi Robin,

that's what I assumed, but I can't find any reference to a central locking relay in the diagrams I have or in the owner's manual... so I think there must be a control module somewhere, but not sure where to look!

Hi Catman
yes it locks using the key in either door, and unlocks normally with the remote. not sure where to find the alarm unit though?

Not something we normally discuss (i.e. I can't really remember) I know the siren is in the boot but that's about it. Hopefully someone with more data will come along shortly.

I recall seeing something which may have been the control module in a rectangular opening in the bulkhead behind the seats. I'll have a look in the next day or so
