Door handle not working

The front passengers side interior door handle has ceased to work on my '56 Quattroporte! There is no resistance when pulled anymore. Am I right in thinking that the interior handle is mechanical & not electrical like the outside handles are? Has anyone else had experience of this? I've got Warranty Wise Platinum cover having bought the car from Dickie Grace, they've told me to take it to a garage to investigate it & report to them & they'll then decide if I'm covered, problem is if I'm not then I'll have to pay for the garage's time for the initial investigation, I thinks? If the problem is mechanical then it won't be covered anyway so a little time on here will probably tell me more anyway. Andy

Mine went and it's the lug inside that pulls the latch. The fix was a new internal piece that houses the trigger etc. Cost about £200 plus about an hour labour.

It is an MOT failure if the door cannot be opened and as it is a mechanical failure I would assume it is covered on your warranty.
Good luck

Hi there, it could be the operating cable has become detached..
Worth looking on here for the link to remove the door card.

Also Try Eurospares Website for the internal handle, may help give you an insight,

Cheers

Thanks guys. My first option was to remove myself, but just wandered if anyone else had experienced the same!

Hi MIB,

I had the same problem - you'll need a new internal door handle for a permanent fix. About £150 from Eurospares or some second hand ones around. If you look on Maseratilife there is a handy pictorial of how to remove the door trim. Relatively easy to do - but I've now done it three times after trying a fix which quickly failed!!

I had two minor niggles fixed under Richard's excellent warranty policy and McGrath, who did the work, told me Warranty Wise are the best warranty company they deal with, and they've dealt with them all.

I doubt you'll have any problems claiming if you take it to a specialist.

Spoke to Gary Tait of www.gtautospecialist.co.uk earlier, he's local to me & said that he does a permanent fix for this problem as it's a known issue. Repairs himself whilst you wait for £75.00, I'll be going to see him this Thursday/Friday so will keep you posted!

I use GT auto too as it's fairly local to me in Burton-on-Trent. Where about in Staffordshire are you?

Well repair done today, permanent fix for £70.00! Watched Gary do it with bumper resin, also fixed my boot opening via the dash button whilst I was there & charged no more!

Jason (as in JP Performance Cars) is still going strong. Still great service and highly knowledgeable. Gary is back with the dealers but is also alive and well. 01543 682388
