Wouldn't surprise me if they were the same system. Don't see why they would use a different system.

It's physically very different, which doesn't always mean anything I agree.

It's in the manual, though. I'll have a look later if I remember

I have not physically seen it but i assume it is where the iPod cable connects in my 2009 with Bose NIT

It's optional, at least according to the technical manual:

The EIPMP module (optional) is an interface box for the optional iPod connector and is fitted underneath the NIT unit.

That is not my maserati QUATTROPORTE manual says at all. Are you refering to a Granturismo manual ?

I am starting to think my problem is really software related.
I have tried to apply the service update 1 provided by the DL without success.

I might have to reinstall the original firmware.
The problem is I don't know if the DL will be able to provide it to me !

Will keep you guys posted.

Thanks for everybody's help

Nope I'm looking at the technical documentation that comes from the training academy.

Proceed as follows to check the SW version of the Bose NIT:
• Select the radio function
• Press and hold the MENU button and the “1” button simultaneously until the “Silverbox” menu is viewed on the screen.
• Select and confirm with the right hand knob to view the software version.

The paragraph I quoted also contains the following:

The antenna amplifiers of the Bose NIT are not connected directly to the NIT but their signals go through the tuner (Bose Tuner Box) positioned in the luggage compartment.
• Two +30 (direct positive) power supplies arrive at the NIT.
• The EIPMP module (optional) is an interface box for the optional iPod connector and is fitted underneath the NIT unit.
• The Array microphone contains multiple microphones for the hands-free calling, voice controls and Audiopilot® functions. It is fitted in the roof console.
• The (optional) analogue TV receiver is not an external unit but is integrated inside the Bose NIT.

I'd love to be able to complete this first step. That would mean that my NIT is fixed and the buttons are responding !

Hi,

I sent an email to my local dealership yesterday (Montpellier, France) asking if they had the "original" firmware in order to reprogram the NIT.
The guy said he forwarded the request to Maserati France.
I asked him to follow through for me. He told me he did not have time and gave me their number. (yes, seriously)
He said I can pay 7000€ in order to order a new NIT to the factory (it's currently out of stock) but he does not know when I would receive it. Weeks or months, no idea !

Do you guys know a good dealership / Maserati specialist in the UK I can contact and ask if by any chance they know if it possible to get my hands on the NIT firmware ?

Thanks !

I updated my phone contacts yesterday and as part of the process it asked if i wanted to backup the system files.. took ages to back them up to a USB but i wonder if they are the files you need and it would work ? It created a folder called BoseBackup Around 1.4GB is in use but i cannot see the files as they are hidden.

Could be. Unfortunately, like a muppet, I never had the patience to wait for a full system back-up to complete so I don't have the files.

I was hoping for a "first install" firmware disk.

Not sure it exists

Hmm

So I *really* doubt that any dealer will let (or be allowed to let) you have the firmware. We've had success in cloning the hard drives in the Magneti Marelli. Logically it's possible taht the same could be done with the Bose NIT.

You will need
1) Someone prepared to take their Bose NIT out, remove hte hard drive and clone an image
2) Send it to you
3) Clone to a new disc
4) Install in your NIT

Not as bad as it sounds, but it does sound pretty bad :(

Get some stereo removal tools and remove your NIT then locate the Hard Drive, just because it doesn't boot in the car does not mean that the drive is totally dead, my original HDD would give a blank screen but I managed to get an image from it and now have an SSD in place of the HDD. If you can get it out and shipped to me then I can certainly try to rescue the data.

Doesn't look like it comes out with normal removal tools :(

Hi,

I just bought a second hand unit in the US for $2150 (+ $850 USD for shipping and import tax). cough, cough !

Well it is still better than 7000 € I suppose and I might be able to fix the old unit by copying the firmware from the new one on the HDD.

Anyway, thanks guys for all the help !
