Rear shock absorber

So after an inspection my GTS has a leaking rear shock. The only problem is that Maserati will only supply a pair and I would rather buy one. Eurospares have them listed here
http://www.eurospares.co.uk/search?partNumber=254814

and seem as though they are able to buy as a single unit. I would prefer this as Emblem are quoting £2K to replace both which seems a bit expensive to me. Would Eurospares just supply one?

Are there any other options that are available or anywhere else I may be able to just buy one. Either that or does anyone else need a single shock replaced and we can go halves on a set? (clutching at straws I guess)

Caution re delivery times for ES. Also is there any indication as to why one is leaking? It may be worth getting both done if its age.

Finally you can get them refurbished but it would take time and that may not be an option.

Sorry to hear that, how old is your GTS & how many miles?
As Peter says, it may be prudent to take the hit and replace both

That doesn't seem very old at all and I've not heard of them going that early. I guess it's just bad luck but it might be worth calling around another couple of specialists to get their prices / take on it?

The sensible advice is to do both as with anything regarding brakes and suspension.
I had both my rears overhauled down here as one started weaping after the long trip at sea and then sitting around to get through compliance.

Done some accident repairs on a GT MCS down here and only fitted one so the dealer can get just one they certainly dont come boxed as a pair.

Try Ross at Meridian Modena...they frequently match or beat ES. and there is a forum discount.

Plus the overhauling route should not be dismissed as with that mileage & age, it just be a matter of failed seals rather than serious wear

Better service as well!

Cheers guys...he's on my list to call tomorrow. With a car that's only 4 years old would there be any issue with just replacing one shock? In an ideal world maybe both should be replaced but the other one is fine and I'm a bit reticent to just splash out nearly £1K on a part that is fine.

Sell the spare one on ebay and get some money back.

I've been thinking about that....shame somebody isn't in the same predicament as I would bite their arm off to just buy one. I've even considered getting my leaking shock re-conditioned and either keeping it in case I get another issue or selling it on ebay.

Just phoned Ross at Meridien and he can order one shock in and also at a 10% discount as I'm a forum member. Thank you to everyone who has offered advice etc.

glad it worked out! ps. I wasn't clear, by the way, I had bought a single FRONT shock for a GT C Sport (which is a different part than every other configuration apparently!)

Just swapping leaking rear shock now. Have a complete unit spring plus shock. My own original spring is better.
Is it easy to swap?

Hi Rob, I have done this on my 3200 at home - just need spring compressor set to take pressure off top nut.
