It's literally like floating on a magic carpet and it throws you to the horizon at a very rapid rate, quickest car from standing to 100 I've ever been in for sure, it would leave a Huracan for dead up to 60-70.

Would you buy one, Phil? That's not a challenge, by the way, I'm genuinely interested.

If it made sense yes and what I mean is if I had to commute the say 30 mile per day round trip to work then yes it would be a contender. The problem I have with them is that they are too expensive for what they are (even used ones are in the £60k bracket) and that probably because you are buying into that certain lifestyle product. It will never replace a V8 combustion engine for raw driving experience and feel.

The other issue is that you tend to need to plan long journeys based on charging stations so there is lots more thought needed in planning road trips etc but I guess the amazing large touchscreen ipad type console helps navigate you to the nearest charging point?

The ride quality is something else, air ride and 4 wheel drive with a very low centre of gravity due to battery location means it also handles very well for a 2+ tonne barge. Xaviers care under steered massively but that was probably down to eco tyres. The stopping power was immense, literally eye hurting forces and that's probably down to the added bonus of regenerative braking (regen).

I find this so interesting 'cos I worked on the Lucas electric taxi and also was heavily involved in the design of the Bedford crewbus conversion for London Airport, both in the 1970's.

Maximum torque at zero rpm! It was great to out accelerate everything off the traffic lights in 'Brum, 4 up in the bright yellow Ogle styled taxi and with an undertray swilling with hefty lead acid batteries - the regen braking and brakes themselves had a lot of work to do to bring that lot to a halt! 50 mile range was the best that could be done at that time.
Even then Hybrid was the obvious way ahead, I proposed the use of a small motorcycle 2 stroke engine but used a vulgar word (motorcycle) and everyone immediately 'switched off'! ;)

Did the Teslar have that annoying Zing -zing - zing noise which is so apparent in Formula 'E' and also was a challenge on the Lucas taxi? We tried to cure this in the crewbus design by using 'Hyvo' chain drive transmission (a toothed chain which was more silent than the conventional type, or gears).
