Many, many years ago I had a 2.8, Maf yellow and black vinyl roof........thought I was the bees knees!
Still had to have a bread tray in the boot wi bricks in it to keep the back end from going to the front mind!

That is one stunning Capri for sure.
Classic Ford's around the world seem to be going up in value daily.
I paid a lot less for my XJC that what people want for Escorts down here.
Had a 2.0 GT a 3.0S and a 2.8i.
Loved my Capris back in the early 80's.
I blame it on Bodie and Doyle.

:) I tried to buy one as my 2nd car after a mini van. 3.0 Gold with black vinyl roof, a tad rusty if I remember.

In early 80's turned down offer to buy a cheap RS3100. Had owned a MK1 facelift 1600 and a MK2 2.0 by then.
One of many car decisions I regret.
As Greg says back end was always trying to swap ends with the front especially in damp conditions.

Ive had 5 capris in total and despite the rise in value the only one i remotely miss is the 2.8 special written off by somebody driving into the side of it.

We also had in my family a 2.0s and a very rare JPS special in white from the factory as against the black and gold which was still limited numbers but far more than the white version.

It's says RS look so I take its not an RS ?........Grew up with the Capri and always wanted a 2.8i but could only afford a 2 litre.

That's the problem for me lovely as it is, I would think it would be worth just as much but would be more desirable in original spec.

I have never ever bought a car as an investment but keep being tempted by the Capri as it's definitely moving in the right direction. but has not yet gone silly like MK1 or even MK2 Escort.

For me it would have to be a 3.0 in Daytona Yellow as I have always wanted one sone having a 1.6 as my first real car.

I have a problem with old Fords, the vast majority were run of the mill everyday boxes built to a budget they were not very special. Fords marketing however was supreme, RS versions providing the halo image of motorsport across the brand. Even back in the day real RS Fords were worth tracking down especially the ones before they started sticking the RS badge on anything with Rostyle wheels.

Genuine MK1 Escort RS 1600, Mk2 RS 1800, Capri RS2600 & RS3100 were and still are cars to aspire too and the prices of these today should recognise the rarity and uniqueness they had in the day. However today the market seems to accept any old Ford as valuable, why a Mexico replica is worth £20k is beyond me, even an original Mexico was only a 1600 Crossflow with a few styling bits and MK2 versions were just a stripe. Fords are easy to modify and even the current classic motorsport championships allow period mods to be added to normal mundane cars hence why you will see a modified MK2 1.6 Escort knocking the spots of an Alfa 1600 GT Junior (or similar) despite the fact the Alfa came with twin cam, 5 speed box, independent suspension, LSD as standard in the day.

I grew up with fast Escorts I must have had 20 or more including Mexicos, RS2000, Gt, Sport etc. I even had a real 1600 Twin Cam but they were and always will be faster versions of the cheap family box. I occasionally think it would be nice to get one again but first I look at the price of the genuine article and then I drive one again and think what were you thinking. From this period any of the Alfa or Lancia coupes are substantially better even the BMW 2002 range were better cars then and now.

Remember by 1978 the hot hatches coming to the market made all the fast Fords obsolete in an instance primarily as they were faster, handled better and were more fun to drive - Fast Ford rant over

With you on that one Andy. Back in the early 80's had a 3.0S and then a 2.8 special. Thought they were fabulous at time. Few years ago a mate and me thought it would be fun to buy some again. How disappointing they all were and we didn't bother, so why do I pine for a my 2 escort or my 1 xr2. On reflection we should of bought the capris!

I'd love a Mexico but doubt I'd pay the £30-40k needed to secure one now. I still want an XR2 in mint condition though, learnt to drive at 15 in one so it just oozes great memories of growing up.

But a Mexico was nothing special, still had the std 1.6 OHV engine, flared front arches, short bumpers and some stripes, for £30-40k I would want a twin cam at least. That sort of money would buy you a 1.6HF Fulvia or Junior Zagato both oh which are rarer and better in just about every respect.

Twin Cams, RS16s and RS18s are north of £60k these days, well north if it's a really good one.
