Cut them down and make new aglets out of electrical heat shrink tubing. Job done.

One long diagonal for the "outside" lace and then the other looping round so the laces are horizozontal. Mirror image for the other foot...

Now is that German or British lacing, I can't remember but I was told at a rather nice shoe shop once
