Advise on Buying a QP - Is This Really a QP GTS?

Hi All

I am a new member, and am looking to buy a 2005/9 QP.

I have read a lot on here over the last week or so. There seems to be a clear recommendation to go for a GTS if you can afford to.

At the moment I have two choices, at the extremes of my budget. Oddly both in the same colour.

First up a 2008, 4.7 GTS. As far as I can tell the 4.7 did not come out until 2009, and this does not look like a GTS (e.g. chrome on window surround etc) What do you experts think.

Second up a 55 car, very full spec and very low miles (22k one owner for 10 years serviced every 2 years/1,500 miles). I drove this, and fell in love! I found Duo Select a bit odd, but assume I will get used to it.

My intention is to run the car as a second car, use twice a week to work (10 miles each way), and at weekends. So the cheaper, low miles older Duo Select, may fit the bill. But if the GTS is really the best car, then I will focus on those.

I would appreciate your opinions

Paul

That first car has had an engine transplant, a 4.7 engine put into a 4.2 car. It is also not a GTS, it's a Sport GT. It has been on the market for about a year I believe.

The best car you could buy right now is Ewan's QP. It's a no brainer.

Thanks for your speedy reply.

I thought it was not quite right, but thanks to your expertise I have avoided a wasted trip.

Any thoughts on the older 55 plate car?

Paul

Power of the forum can smell a deal even down here in New Zealand.
Think Ewan is New Forest way if I'm correct.

Hi Paul,

I've not advertised the car publically - just to the forum. The last time I wanted to sell one of my Maserati's it was instantly snapped up by another forum member, so it makes sense to go through here first.

I'm based in Dorset. The car is currently at a Maserati specialist being serviced and detailed. But they called earlier this evening to say it's all ready, so they will trailer it back to me whenever I say. You are welcome to view it virtually anytime (though not this Saturday, as I'll be at my children's school Sports Day). I'll send you a PM with my contact details, but you can always reach me at (or via) my work, Coppercoat.com

That was me and it was a great car. No brainer buying from a forum member like Ewan.

In fact, I've just realised the last three Maserati's I've sold have all been to forum members. The silver QP that Phil bought, the blue (ex Martin Brundle) QP IV that John bought, and the awesome (I shouldn't have sold it) blue Shamal.

Happy to chat tomorrow Paul. Best to try me in the morning as I'm tied up from about 1.30 onwards.

I can't believe I just sat and watched all of that video about painting the bottom of a boat, though I am now fully qualified so I might have a go at the bottom of the Maserati

Sounds like a no brainer, if you're afloat. I wonder if it was applied to HMS Queen Elizabeth. MoD doing something sensible? Sorry. I lost my marbles for a moment

2nd that although I don't want anyone to buy it now until I have the readies....

Car finance has never been cheaper Andy. I imagine a £5k deposit followed by 48 payments of £450 a month would do it easily. Or a bigger deposit and even smaller monthly payments.

Then you wouldn't be Maserless and you could change the crying face from your signature to something altogether more upbeat (like this chap, in his Blu Med shoes) :happy2:

Is it really - maybe I should consider it, always considered finance an abhorrent anathema, but if it gets you something you covet..........

I just took finance on a new (to me) car.
At around 3% seemed daft not to. Different deals depending on age and value of car. Residuals of the car was also a factor.
Straight HP, low-high deposits, small or high balloon payments. Different rates if it is a business. Never knew these options existed.
Guy I used is salaried and not on commission and was happy with the advice I got from him.
Some of the cars that were suddenly in reach was scary tbh. Also pretty exciting! lol
