Ouch!! Me and my big mouth about my Insurance premium - now the dreaded renewal -

So my premium for last year was £3,700 and today got the renewal quote and it's now £4,700. No changes other than I sold the JPS Esprit and my wife and I are 1 year older..

I am with Zurich private clients via A-Plan.

Anyone had a 27% hike in premiums?

Any ideas who I can call to better my multi car policy quote?

Appreciate the responses otherwise I am on bread and water from now on,,,, or as my wife said, "just sell some cars"!!! Nooooooooo!!

Cheers,

Stu

Ive just insured the wife's new ML with Admiral. If I add my Merc and Maser, their renewal is only about 400 quid each, which is a bit of a bargain compared to what I'm paying now.

Crikey!!!!!!
Over here my insurance is $1,500nz about 750 pounds fully comp with full no claims allowance and free glass cover.

Do you have to insure all your cars individually?
If you do why not get trade insurance and it will cover heaps of cars for far less.

That's a bit steep even before the hike guess you don't have any NCB (?)

I had a 50% hike in my premium but I'm still paying less than 1k. Went up from around £550 to £890

Yes for all 14 cars......

I know it's a lot but other than selling the Esprit, nothing has changed.

My previous years insurances have all been commensurate

Our insurance isnt as much as that and we are dealers. We have 20 cars on file at any one time. Our personal cars are two BMWs, a horsebox and the Mas and they are all covered.
Call yourself a Trader and get a Traders Policy :)

Apologies I thought it was just for your stradale now it makes more sense. Try shopping around but both mime and my partners premium have gone up with no changes in circumstances otherv than the insurers trying to recover their losses with the rise in insurance premium tax

Thanks for the responses.

How does one get a trade policy when you are not a trader?

Apologies for the dumb question.

Does anyone know who I can contact?

Cheers,

I'm with Tradex through Peacock (Broker). I am regarded as a part time trader as it is not my main job but do less than 10 trades a year. Normally have 2-3 cars a year bought or sold. I think you have to give 6 pieces of evidence of trading. Some can be buy/sell evidence & also buying parts/service/repairs invoices can be used. I think I bought/sold maybe 4 or 5 in last year.

If you are not a trader, I can't see how you could even attempt to buy a trader policy.
Misrepresentation is a serious offence effectively meaning the insurance is null and void. If you are a limited company they can check at Companies House and the Register of Persons with Significant Control, your registered address, your VAT number if registered for VAT, ask you to submit the past year's trading account as part of due diligence and so on.

Try comparison sites for multi-car policies and shop around. But with that number of cars it is going to be a considerable element of ownership costs - try also classic car policies - see Modern Classics magazine for the ads for such insurance brokers, as well as limited mileage policies.

That is a big list of cars you own.

Agreed, I have bought and sold about 7 or 8 in the last year and never really considered a trade policy for the obvious tax declaration reason. I'm in a good position to be able to borrow my mates trade plates when I want to collect and move cars etc....

I use Pace Ward for my multi car fleet and they seem to be able to get competitive quotes, admittedly I don't have 14 cars but have several high value performasnce cars on the policy......

Mine went up to £1711 from £1200 last year with Admiral. I gave them a call and got it reduced to £1350, result!

I have a fleet policy through Pace Ward (paceward.com). I use their specialist insurance cover from Hiscox. Hopefully there'll make you a good saving from your current quote. (We have 15 cars insured with them.)

Pace Ward are proper brokers and cover on their policies is far superior to your Admirals of this world.
You can phone and discuss with them and they do actually know about our type of cars. They will extend for track days. They will come and go on security if you can make a case why you don't need a tracker or whatever. They will take cars, bikes, vans and anything else with an engine on the one policy.
