My boot push button release does not work.
Also does not work off the key but does work using the button next to steering wheel?

Any suggestions please?
A fuse?

Located under passenger seat carpet?

You'll need to let us know what model your car is.
It doesn't sound like my type where the boot release button is in the glovebox.
I bought a replacement unit for mine for 10 UK pounds or so from memory from Eurospares, as the buttons were worn with use. I'm not fussy, really?
Unfortunately the new unit didn't work so I ended up transferring the new buttons to the old mechanism.

I'm going to guess it's a GT / QP type :)

So there are a couple of possibilities.

1) The grommet over the boot handle button gets pushed in and holds the switch down. That screws things up. It's simple to gently prise back into place.
2) The key actually needs a couple of seconds pushing before the boot unlocks. I don't really understand the idea behind it, since you still need to unlock the car then press the button on the fob for two seconds. Go figure.

There's a re-sync process for the key as well, but one step at a time.

I can second that, most likely rubber cover on the handle/switch has gone in too deep. Had this on mine as well and often after having someone else open the boot. Its just not fixed securely enough

Just another question on this, when i pop my boot its really heavy and doesn't seem to have any assistance in raising, there are struts, so is it supposed to pop up or do you guys also need to do a manly bicep curl to lift the lid?

Hi

Yes, it's a GT and the grommet was pushed up into the boot lid. I have fixed this issue but still nothing. I'm wondering if it may have shoemrted out where it was stuck in?
Where are the fuses?

I'd start by resetting. From memory: Lock the car with the fob and hold the button for about 10 seconds. You should get extra beeps / light flashes.

Then try.

Thanks @CatmanV2...hadn’t noticed but the rubber was sticking the button down from the inside on mine,

A quick fix!

I fixed Krishnas. It never worked same as yours.

Undid the two screws and pulled it out, cleaned the microswitch and made sure it was contacting, recrimped the wires and its worked fine since.

your symptoms are similar to what I had; well for me none of the buttons worked, and only the key did.... the reason was the wires that run from the interior of the car to the bootlid (in a bundle that travels up near the LH bootlid hinge break internally (you can check with a continuity tester). Once soldered together, all the buttons worked (don't forget the remote release on your flip key still sends a signal to a receiver in the passenger compartment, so the wire still runs into the boot via bootlid hinge. Apparently the wires get brittle with age, and apparently nt unusual.

I’ve just had a similar range of issues to this on my QPV:
  • initially the boot button stopped working and the boot refused to lock - fixed by a lock system reset and re balancing the spacers either end of the boot lid
  • then we had the ability to lock but needed the remote key to get in
  • then the boot lost its ability to release even with the remote - making noises but not releasing - fixed by pushing down slightly on the boot as you open it
  • at some point during the process we totally lost the ability to get in - so had to use the key. However the car wouldn’t then release this - so had to unscrew the cover above the number plate to get it out - showing that the release cable was routed slightly wrongly and so getting stuck

In short - it basically needs to go to a locks/electrical specialist and probably needs a couple of new parts. Any suggestions I can head to from North London?

why not just go to HR Owen in Acton? It cost under £300 to fix my wiring issue there, which they managed to do while I waited.

Or Dick Lovett in Swindon, who 'only' charged me £89 to re-set the boot locking gremlins on my QPV, which they managed to do before I had even finished my cup of tea.
