Another 3200 Pushing the Boundaries.

Wow, it will be interesting to see what it goes for. It does appear to be a very nice example though. I've seen a big differnce on prices with some very low and a couple of others at the high end like this one.

That steering wheel. I don't think i could see past it - and that would be a REAR problem in the short term ;)

I see they have another 1 or 2 for sale with more miles too. Not sure 30k is low enough miles to warrant that prospective price though..

I'll have two! Nice to see these 3200's pushing price boundaries with some recent GS's knocking on 40's & Spyder's beyond with MCV's at 50's+ it has to be good for us all.

I was trawling around some European sites, where it appears good 3200 asking prices have crept past similar 4200s. Whatever, they are both bargains compared to other marques.

How'd you come to that conclusion?

In general sitting around doesn't do these cars any good.

I also spent 4 months or more doing extensive preventative maintenance on mine. Things like the coolant hoses go soft for example - you just can't rely on them anymore.

Coolant sat there in the block not circulating and maybe not changed not doing much good.

In other words, a low mileage queen may eat up money once you start using it.

My experience of all older cars is generally that if you don't use it's not a good thing.

Just my opinion...

May be true in general, but know plenty of cars that don't do a whole lot of miles but are started, moved and maintained to keep them in top condition and don't see to suffer at all for it.

Everything rubber on these cars deteriorates regardless of mileage. We've just bought 3200 number six and I can't find any evidence of the low miler cars having problems due to low usage.
Its normally a myth mentioned by owners of the higher mileage cars.

As long as the car is stored indoors in a proper dry garage.

That's exactly what I mean. And then I would argue that often the low mileage cars have not been used much, and laid up for long periods.

If you buy one to actually use, then all of the age related problems will rear their head.

If you buy one that someone has been using and replaced lots of bits on in the last year or two, you might argue that it is better buy, as those problems have already reared their head.

After 15-20 years a lot of items just need replacing due to their age.

While i am happy to see some collectors cars on sale its hard to conceive of anyone paying that sort of money for a car with so many possible pitfalls. I guess at 5000 miles it all should be good, and no-one is ever going to drive it so maybe it does not matter.

The AC for sale at McGrath is one that has to be pushing it even further.
At that mileage it's definately a collectors car...

Surely all exotica has possible pitfalls, not just 3200s? I cannot believe Ferrari 348s and early 355s do not have some serious bills from time to time?

And for modern reference, earlier this year my mate bought a year old Audi RS6 V10. The engine went pop recently after throwing a rod. The total bill? £32,000. Thankfully under dealer warranty...

Still, at least he can change his sidelights easily :frusty5:

yes probably right, at some point the value cancels the cost or impact of the potential problems. don't get me wrong I suspect most of us thought 3200 values might rise when they become a bit rarer. Its all good I suspect unless you want to buy a low mileage car :)

My 4200 is a low mileage garage queen but gets regular enough use. It is started/moved often and very well looked after. It is kept under a nice soft oem cover in a nice dry dehumidified garage. I have had several comments by specialists who have seen, worked on & driven her that it is one of if not the best 4200 they have seen. I'm happy with that for sure and there are no low mileage issues or long lay up periods as there hasn't been any. It has pretty much done 1000-1500 each year every year since 2007 when it was new. I would certainly buy it again if in the market for a 4200 & would certainly pay a premium for it. It is the best 4200 I have seen.

However not all cars are the same. You can often tell a car that has been left outside or not used for long periods or not looked after.

But does it have any long road trips under its belt? I think that is a real test for these cars. Prolonged heavy useage will really test the parts...
