Annual servicing for a Granturismo?

All

I'm just about to reach the first anniversary of owning my Granturismo, and have loved every minute of it. During the last year, I've done approx 6,000 miles, have stuck a Larini x-pipe on the car, and the car is currently in with Sportscar Protection for a full detail, paint correction and ceramic glass coat.

I know the official service interval is 12,500 miles or every 2 years, but do any of you do an annual service?

I've got a front parking sensor that needs replacing, and I've bought a new Bosch S5 battery to put in as I'm not convinced my battery is charging properly. However, I'm wondering whether it would be sensible maintenance to also have either a full or mini service done?

Tricky one.

different car but I have only done 2k since the last service in the GS, but it does have annual intervals... £600 for new fluids that are still like new; however I suspect it will knock £500 off the value if missed.

With the GT i would just get the garage to give it the once over and save your £600+ for next year and have a really good service esp if the miles over winter will be minimal.

A quick check over and an oil (plus oil filter) change is always a good idea, and only a few hundred quid. It marks you out as a particularly fastidious/careful owner as well, so when you eventually come to sell, it will help set you and your car apart from the rest.

I personally think that the 2 year servicing interval is a folly. The additives in oil that keep it viscous at high temps degrade with use - quite how much I don't know yet but I am conducting a study to find out. The F430 and 458 engines, which are a similar design and use the same oil, have annual/6,250 intervals which feels about right.

All of my own vehicles get an oil change at least once a year - my van gets done once a quarter!

Thanks all - it feels weird to me that the Independent mini specialist who I am taking my Mini Cooper to is recommending an annual service, but that the Maserati is on a 2 year interval. I think I'd feel better giving the car a partial service / check-up every year.

My view is that there's no way the manufacturer would state a longer interval if they didn't feel the cars could take it.

Whilst some relation, the F430 and 458 engines are very different. The GT engine is under 100bhp/litre for starters, whilst the Ferraris are at least 20% greater. The revs at the power peak are also 7k in the GT and 8.5k/9k in the Ferraris. Those things take a hefty toll. Especially so if the cars are used to their fullest - I imagine your average F430/458 will spend more time in the top 25% of its rev range than a GT.

Annual changes aren't going to hurt a car. But I don't see they're essential by any stretch.

(When it's on the road I change the oil in my Caterham annually as it gets hard use. Modern synthetic oils look brand new when they're changed.)

Fair comment - I'm sure an annual oil change is not necessary or essential, and I don't doubt the car would be fine if I didnt do anything with it mechanically for another year.

However, for the sake a few hundred quid, it seems worth doing to me... even if it's just as a bit of added peace of mind

I generally change oil and filter on my cars annually,
Not like it takes long
Take the used oil to the recycling centre..

I'll be taking the GT in for its MOT to my high trusted Alfa guy. He'll go over it for me. We might change the oil but it's had nearly as much oil as petrol in it :)

No seriously, fluids an filters every year? £200 ish. No brainer.

FWIW my own plan is to do much the same. Oil and filter annually, regardless. Plus have the mechanic check over the car thoroughly in case anything preventative is needed. Peace of mind for a couple of hundred pounds :)
