Airbag Light on GT 4.2

Happy New Year everyone.

My GT is returning from my MD having had the front, right ABS/Hub Sensor replaced - which they did at a fair price and provided great service.

Before the sensor gave up, the car has for months been flashing up intermittently the dreaded airbag light. So I got the folk from Tracker/Vodafone out who disconected it as the AA had told me there was a draw on the battery when the car is parked up. The car is also kept on a CTech and the battery 3.5 yrs old.

The MD plugged it in and say they can't do anything as they don't like to try and fix airbags - simply replace them due to the ramifications of it malfunctioning post a 'fix'.

I read on the forum a little while ago of the location of the airbag sensor under the bonnet that activates it at the time of a crash and a wiggle of this had cured another member's airbag whoes. Can anyone help?? Or suggest other remedies??

Whilst I'm here - the cost of these bl**dy ABS/Hubs is close to robbery. Funny that we 4.2 owners worry about variators when these can be fixed for the price of the replacement of only 2 ABS/Hub sensors.

Thanks.

Michael

ABS hub is the same on the GT as the 4200 and can be had for £300 plus vat and took me an hour and a half to change at home...admittedly that was the front which I believe is easier.

Ive just checked and the GT is coming up as a different part number but still only £400 plus vat each. They look the same so have 4 bolt holes and bolt to the hub and I was told they are the same so worth checking, as we know how sly Maserati parts can be.

Which main dealer told you that they didn't like to fixed airbag errors? I've never heard of anything so ridiculous.

In some ways airbags problems are easy to chase down as the wiring is on a separate loom and covered in yellow tape. Also the number of faults the airbag ECU can register is fairly narrow.

Did the MD at least tell you what the codes were?

This. Sounds nonsense!

Gents,

The part came in at £570+VAT plus labour and on reflection, I should have gone to a specialist as the final bill would have been £250 +/- less. The real pain is the airbag light, there were no error codes and since it has come back the light has stayed off. Any ideas pls?

Thx

Gents,

My car has been back from the MD for almost 2 weeks. I use it once a week, always have done for 4 years. as I work in London/Home and have another car etc. So with my normal usage and not putting it on the Ctek, the airbag light is staying off.

Bigbob is correct, you have to keep the battery topped up etc., but I think I may be using the wrong Ctek and wonder if it could be causing the issue.

I'm using a Ctek XS 0.8; is this too small?

Thanks.
