Vehicle inspection

Hi All,
I’m new to the site so by way of introduction, I’m already after some guidance from the knowledge base.  Please be kind. I have no experience of these cars....

I have interest in a car (4200GT manual) I’m sure I’ve read similar threads but as people’s situations change, I’m asking again...
The car is on a forecourt. They won’t allow it off site for PPI with McGrath only 20 Miles away. McGrath won’t travel.
I don’t think there’s a lift to get under which may reduce the efficacy of any inspection. Can I trust RAC or similar to know what they,re looking for ?
Going to se the car in person today. Extensive history is available . All the same, if there is a knowledgeable engineer who knows Maseratis & would travel to undertake a PPI in the area, I would feel happier. The car is in Essex ( EN11 )

TIA.

Looks a half way reasonable car, and not far from me.

Have you thought of asking AV Engineering or Giallo? They aren't *too* far.

If you're that worried about getting a PPI I can't see that RAC et al are going to give you a sensible answer, I'm afraid.

Any indication of the service history on it?

It does look nice even if that part of Hoddesdon is a tip. Quite literally in fact.
Know a few in the area who've had dealings with the garage in the past. Seemingly they are a decent bunch - not that that necessarily helps of course.

Voicey at AV Engineering is your man.

He lives in Blackheath even though his facility (it's far too clean to be called a garage) is in Kent.

Voicey did mine on site, and would highly recommend as any other Maserati Specialist too.

Interesting that they won't allow it to go 20 miles for an inspection!! When I was looking for someone to do mine a few months ago, I was recommended a guy called Mark Writtlesley, from "More than Polish" who has a background in "supercars" and will travel. The phone number was 01780 749449.

Hi Tim,

Welcome to the forum.
I cant help with suggestions for a PPI beyond what has already been said, other than to thoroughly recommend getting one from someone with specialist knowledge and not RAC.

I can however commend your car choice! I went through the research, testing and buying of a manual 4200 last year - I am more than happy to talk to you about my experience in general. The manual is rare, and there are some bad examples of that gearbox around. However take your time and find the right one, the gear change will be sweet, then you can enjoy all the fun of driving a NA Italian V8 with a manual gearbox while they still exist!

Wow...! Thanks for the positive comments..!I feel welcome already !! :as002:

As it goes, the guys were persuaded of the value of a specialist inspection, and further agreed to deliver & collect the car to McGraths for me... Cant ask for more than that really. :embarrassed:

Fingers crossed no nasties....

cheers

McGrath will be pretty thorough so unless it is perfect there will likely be some points for discussion.

Mark only sub contracts the inspections out to a specialist nearby so you'd be better of engaging a local person directly.

The seller is nowhere near Buntingford is it?
Asking because Hoddesdon isn't a million miles away.
If its a business called SellYourCarWithUs, please give me a shout before you close a deal.
You DO NOT want to buy from this business under any circumstances.
