DPF regeneration and adblue indicator reset - help!!!

I have had the Maserati for a couple of months now and it is driving me insane.

I can understand the whole Italian passion thing now. Boy do you have to be passionate to prevent crashing his straight through a wall.

So many things I love about it so far and yet ... so many head bangingly annoying niggles. It had a knock which I have had repaired but now it keeps throwing up all kinds of issues. Hummmmmpppfff

If anyone can help with the following it would be very much appreciated.

I had a light come on which said something about adblue service. So I topped up the adblue tank in the boot. The dash now reads 19 litres (in a tank that holds 20) so I know it has picked up the liquid I topped up, however the service reminder has not cleared???

Secondly, the dpf is not regenerating and is now at 90% blocked. To add, the engine light is on from an accident and the car is in limp mode at the moment waiting to have the codes cleared from the garage. If the engine light is on or car is in limp mode will this automatically mean that it won't regenrate the dpf?

Will this problem be dealt with if I clear the codes and do a forced regen from the obd?

Many thanks in advance for any help or insight anyone can provide.

Italian passion and talking about DPFs and Adblue is surely an oxymoron.

The issue is probably due to the fact that a service technician would plug in a device into the ECU to zero everything post service.

Pretty sure the regen will not take place if the engine light is on.

The regen revs the car hard and for an extended time. If the engine reports an issue then a regen could potentially damage the engine so would be prudent to block this from happening until all errors are cleared.

Had a similar issue on my Merc. Was an exhaust sensor of some kind. The specialist advised me not to drive far until the sensor was replaced and the CEL cleared as the DPF not regenerating would cause loads more expensive issues.

I would imagine it's the same regardless of make.

So if you've been driving it with that issue. Stop. Get it fixed ASAP!

That's my experience too on my old Audi. In regen the injectors pulse on the exhaust stroke to burn fuel to heat up the exhaust and burn off the particulates. Adblue reduces the combustion temperature of the soot in the DPF to allow it to burn off leaving ash which is (mostly) blown out of the exhaust. Eventually the ash blocks the DPF and it has to be cleaned or replaced.

If the DPF is heavily blocked the regen increases the pressure on the exhaust stroke blowning unburnt fuel past the rings contaminating the oil.

You are going to need specialist help IMO. There are stories of people removing the DPF and blasting them through with a jet washer or filling them with Coca-Cola. Not really recommended on an expensive car...

Any advise on the adblue??

I have topped it up but it still says "service adblue"

The adblue tank shows that it has 19 litres in there so it's definitely picking up the liquid in the tank...

As MLC said, you probably need a reset done. I'd call a main dealer and ask the service department. My experience has been that they will help over the phone if you have an issue.

Just so that this question is adequately closed off.

The answer to the adblue conundrum was that there is a sensor triggered when the cap goes in. When you top up you need to make sure you are toppin up fully and thenwhen the cap is closed to put the car in run from the start stop button without starting the ignition... need to let it recalibrate before turning car on and it will pick up the change in the adblue
