When not properly “on itâ€, and ignoring clutch wear “issuesâ€, does anybody else secretly enjoy driving their GS in non-sport mode, ie with softer suspension setting and slightly slower “more authentic manual†gear change speed?

I've had my QP on sport mode for a while now, at first I didn't like in the village cos of the speed bumps and raised roads but got used it.

Had to drive the Mrs ancient pug 206 and that was far harder on the ****!

Getting a few squeaks now though, maybe summer drying some links....

I often run the GT in manual only. The suspension can be right jiggly if you're not pressing on in Sport

Rarely use sports mode at all... its far too harsh for the roads near me.

So use it abroad as their roads are surfaced.

If i could get the sports mode without the stiff suspension I would use it far more often.

I don't have a normal mode. It's Sport or Race for me! I have never used Auto and don't even know if it works.

I used my GS without sport on motorway runs or in bad weather. Otherwise, it was on all the time!

I agree with a lot of the others, we were in the Yorkshire dales, me n the missus, the roads were so bad was convinced in broke a wheel, far to harsh, wife wasn't enjoying it, took Sport off and just mosied along.

My GTS was also always in Sport. From time to time, in moments of weakness on motorway runs, I would go to normal mode, but I always had self-loathing afterwards.

On the Vantage, I like having switchability between sport (very much sharper throttle response and steering), exhaust valves and dampers (normal, sport, track). My default is sport, valves open, soft dampers ('track' rattles your teeth out and is just too twitchy). From time to time I close the exhaust valves to stop them from siezing open.

What is this "non-sport mode" you speak of?

I was the same for a long time, and then quite recently a specialist encouraged me to try it on the basis that clutch wear is little different if it is set up properly. So now I drive mostly in non-sport when I'm just cruising around, switching to Sport only when I want to really press on, as presumably Maserati intended.

And with the clutch set up correctly, the changes in non-sport mode are still at least as fast as with a stick shift imo, and you feel the clutch open, gearbox change gear and close with an amount of “feathering†similar to a foot operated clutch. So it now feels really good to me and I'm really enjoying driving it in non-sport mode.

I suspect the tyres being so thin on the GS that makes the roads feel ao bad... my two 4200s were never as bad as they had some tyres on the wheels ratherthan a rubber band.

All GTS seem to have thicker tyres than the GS.

I changed from the over firm PZEROs to GY Eagles and it was much more manageable in SPORT so generally left it there. I had an exhaust override so tended to use that when on the motorway if it was annoying me.

Other than that it was SPORT all the way for me.

Unsurprisingly the banana is in permanent Sport mode, mainly because I hate the 'soft' gear change and there's little difference in exhaust noise regardless of whether the valves are open or not. What I'd love is the option to switch to the softer suspension setting with everything else left in Sport mode.

Here here Maf... exactly what I would like... if only you could pull the Skyhook fuse without error codes.
