My New Little Italian (Fiat 500D)

Some of you may have seen a recent post I placed on here after arriving back from Italy earlier this month.

My wife who shows no interest in cars made a point of pointing out the cute little classic 500's buzzing around the coast roads, so I decided to get her one.

It typical "Scaf style" I bought the first one I saw (well to be honest, I have not even seen it - just pictures and description) but she is a little beauty for sure
and given I am buying off the forum I am not in the least bit concerned about buying unseen from pictures.

Many thanks to Hurricane52 for letting this little gem make the journey from his garage to mine.

I should get her on Friday and so she will be my weekend toy.

The car was restored by specialist Middle Barton Garage of Bicester who have a great reputation and have been at this for 30 + years
- 1965 500D suisdie door model with round speedo
- 126 engine - big carb (not sure about other mods)
- 126 gearbox
- Abarth suspension
- Abarth Exhaust
- Abarth Alloy Wheels
- Aftermarket steering wheel (original comes with the car)
- Comfy supportive aftermarket seats (originals come with the car)

For a moment I thought it was my old one. Same colour, tho mine was pale blue with white piping. I also had the big old white wheel. Car looks excellent :)

Looks ace...will she like it (drive it)

She will love it - but then not really use it !

I did exactly the same a few years back with a beautiful MK1 Mini that I bought at the carfest Auction - she thought it looked cute and wanted it so bid and got it but she hardly went near it.

However I used it quite a lot !!!

This will be a bit of summer fun, most likely with me driving ...... my son wants insured on it as does my daughter so it should get some use.

She will have to learn to drive everywhere at 50mph, and slow down for nothing! Oh yeah, and not use the rear view mirror at those speads as it will vibrate and blur the view. But oh what fun it can be at relatively low speads. Loved mine.

Aching gorgeous.

My first car was a 1959 600.

Is that Azur blue? White with a tint of blue?

Not sure of the colour other that it’s pale blue - there maybe something in the history file otherwise I will need to match it at some point.

It was a standard colour back in the day. I just called mine duck egg. Not sure of Fiat code though.

That's stunning, if someone said to me, I'll paint it blue and fit red door cards, I would try to convince them not to, but that really works.

Hope she has plenty of fun in it.

Will she use it in winter or does she have a daily?

Summer fun only - she has a daily
She will be banned from taking it to the supermarket -

At least hers will fit in a supermarket parking space... Sideways...

Or how about the trolley shelter..

Looks very similar to my 'modern' 500. It looks white until you put it next to a proper white car.

If it helps it may be what FIAT calls 'Cha Cha Cha, Azure'.

Sorry if it sounds a bit girly, but there you go.
