And of course there are auctions - Bonham's have been selling "including the collection of a European Nobleman" over at least 3 auctions now! He must have been a magpie with considerable resources and, eventually hundreds of watches. Some are horrid.

I'm not interested in Rolexes but, I suppose like all collectables, there are rare and particularly sought after variants. Two rather battered Submariners (not, presumably from the Nobleman's collection) caught my eye. Lot 52 is from c 1973 so the Tritium will be pretty dead now but is of interest because it is an MOD Special Forces issue, being sold together with the owner's logbook (?is that a log of his work assignments - if so, presumably that could need to be redacted?). Estimate £40-60k. Lot 150 is even more battered but its rarity has made them give an estimate of £80-120k.

There are also lots of cheaper ones - various gold P Phillipe Calatravas for about £3-6k. Of course there is a buyer's premium of 25% with VAT on the premium, although if you buy lot 151 the premium would probably only be 20%.

P.S. If you are interested in a new and inexpensive quartz tritium tubed watch Nite have got some offers at the moment. I have one for taking on holiday in places like Brazil (we were mugged in Rio though they just wanted phones and money) or darkest (!) Peru.

Agree Andy..Looked at there web site a few times and though you may as well save a bit more and buy new.....Even ones that are discontinued you can seem to get a better price else where.

Wow. Some seriously lovely watches there. Some quite dull ones as well. I managed to get a Luminox from our local cash converters. I'd use that for holidays except it has a lether strap which I don't like for swimming. Very much like the illumination, though.
