Been with A-plan in the past, and back again with them now just renewed. Got mine agreed valued now, with plenty of photos required, including when parked in my garage, at their request! It was at the request of their valuer, so they could see it was a secure garage, not a tin shed I guess.

Aviva were v good for me this year with multicar discount. My colourful driving history ( Speeding Ban, At Fault Accident, 3 more points) matched by my wife's (At fault write-off) was bringing in quotes of £2.5 to £3K which Aviva reduced to £1.2K I have given up on Protected No-Claims as i already had 14 years and was being screwed anyway so not convinced of the value until my points drop and the accident history is no longer in time period.

Aviva where very good to me after an 'At fault complete write off' within 4 days on my first 3200, they paid out 2.5K more than I paid for the car, continued to insure me for the remaining year and come renewal the claim did not appear on my statistics, so I sort of forgot to mention it.

A-Plan did indeed get my Merc renewal.
The even bettered my improved renewal from Adrian Flux.

Based on my previous policies for the 4200 and Merc putting them both with A-Plan has saved me over £500.
More than happy with that.

I'm sure my premiums would be something like that if I had full NCB and an impeccable driving history.
Unfortunately I have neither!

I'm surprised to read people insuring a Maser with internet/high street volume insurers.
I have the Merc E-class with LV, but the Turbo and Gransport are with specialist insurer on agreed value with mileage limitation policies. These allow me to use Porsche-approved and Maser-approved bodyshops for repair, same for glass replacement - the genuine article (Porsche is St Gobain glass) rather than Pilkington or any generic glass, no quibble in the event of a total loss with agreed valuation. The downside is having to have the Turbo valued each year due to prices rising so fast.

Obviously, two separate policies are not the lowest-cost option.
I just wouldn't want bodywork to go to a volume insurer's bodyshop Bob's (you bang 'em, we fix 'em) Bodyshop.

Do many Maser owners use specialist broker policies?

I am surprised! On the 911uk forum where I am a prolific poster, there are regular discussions on volume insurers v specialist brokers, agreed valuation v market valuation and examples of volume insurers giving leeway to take a Porsche to a Porsche-approved bodyshop and asking the policyholder to foot the difference between their approved repairer and a Porsche-approved repairer.

Maybe Maser owners are more flexible than many 911 owners?
I wouldn't ever want to take my Turbo in the event of a claim to anyone other than a Porsche-approved repairer.
A good Indy can spot a Porsche that's been repaired badly or even a high standard but not Porsche-approved.

I have the Maser with my specialist broker, expensive as that may be. But that's just me I guess.

You appear to be missing my point. Or I'm being thick. Admiral will let me use my own repairer (i.e. Giallo) As did eSure. (insurer of the woman that hit me, who was all out to find an MD for me) I don't see that's *me* being flexible. What am I missing?

Flexible is probably inappropriate. I have not come across volume insurers/comparison site insurers that give such choice without some contribution between the policyholder's choice and the insurers recommended repairer. Policyholder has a choice to exercise discretion where the vehicle is repaired as I understand it.

Finally got the GTS insured with Privilege. Interestingly they didn't care where the vehicle was parked at night when I was home and adding my wife saved me £80!

I recently renewed the insurance on my 4200CC. I had switched to Churchill last year via an internet search of all the usual suspects. (Haven't Compare The Market become more expensive of late? It must be all those cuddly meercats and cinema tickets). Anyway, Churchill's renewal for this year was very close to last year's price. Before Churchill I was with Saga who this time had quoted about £75 more than Churcuill but on line I found them to be only about £27 more than Churchill and that included some extras that would have cost more to add to Churchull cover, so I went with the Saga on line quote. When the quote was confirmed I saw it was for a Spider! So I phoned them and they were adamant that my registration number was on a Spider! I said "do you want me to send you a copy of my registration document?" He said "no but I will switch it to a Coupe". Then he said "That comes out about £45 more because of the additional risk" I said why? and he said "Because a coupe is more easily vandalised than a spider"! I said "Surely it is a lot easier to shove a knife into a spider soft top than it is to shove it into any part of a coupe's metal bodywork?" He wasn't convinced but said "Oh well, I will keep the premium as it is this time and just change the vehicle to Coupe". So I am insured for 12 months. I then had another look on the various on line sites and sure enough, several of them had my car as a Spider. How can this be as surely they get their info from DVLA?
This reminds me of about 8 years ago when I had an Alfa 166 3 litre Sportronic Lusso and when my renewal came through I realised it had been insured as a 2.5 litre. I phoned the insurer and was told that they had my registration as a 2.5l and my model description (3 litre Sportronic Lusso) did not exist. It was sorted somehow, I can't remember how, maybe I switched to another insurer. But the question remains - how do they get these details wrong and how do you convince them they are wrong?

I get this as well, my coupe almost always comes up as a spider and when you phone them to get it corrected, always puts the premium up! Bizarre, and yes compare the market have got more expensive, always use every search engine, and go direct to the ones that don't feature on them.

Agreed. Maybe if they can't get the vehicle description correct we should be suspicious of their competence in other areas as well.

Also clear your cookies when doing a comparison site search or use google incognito. You find that it is sometimes cheaper after doing that.
