What have you done to your Maserati today?

QPV MOT booked Wednesday - last time handbrake 'advisory' was the last-chance saloon.
New shoes, disks and pads fitted to OSR. Not sure this car has ever had brand new brake shoes. For certain the disks were never fitting over them! Pretty *straightforward and only took 3 hours ) outside in light rain.

* = news shoes on the grinder taking 1mm off bottom slot housing the adjuster + a few thou' off the edge of pads
Tomorrow we do the same on NSR
The day after we fiddle around with the adjuster until the car will barely move.
This is the very last time I have a car with manually adjusted handbrake. Someone at the factory was having a proper bad day when this was specified.

Well the Rangie is really for the wife, which means I’d inherit her 535i Touring, which I’ve more than fallen in love with.
Whereas in alternative world, the Maser replaces the 166 Ti, which is getting to the stage where it needs lots of things at the same time.
Can a QPV.2 live outside in all weathers though? It’s be like owning a Rembrandt and mounting it above a radiator.
that green QP looks okay . Subframe is the elephant in the room.
btw my QP happy outdoors since 2016. Will lie dormant for 3-4 weeks without needing a charge. I might have space if you need to lose the 166Ti on loan :)

After dithering about the cost of doing a complete sound system upgrade, went the cheap route with a Loudlink. Of course, one thing led to another, as the plastic NIT cover was in pieces on disassembly of the console. Glued all back together, and voila, sound and a non rattling console.

Mine broke as well some time ago - Matt, SI repaired it and I don't think you can see the damage - had I tried it would have been a disaster.

Rear brakes - part two has come to a dead stop. Top caliper bolt very stiff and will not come out further than a few mm. It is the star /torx type and is now damaged. Suspect I have used the "other" type of tool and it was not a proper snug fit.
Will need new bolts for sure - listed on Eurospares as M10x45x1.25 and M10x35x1.25 Not sure these fine thread are commonly available

What next?
Bash in an allen key to get the damaged fastener out
remove hub carrier to get it on a bench ? ( More likely remove wishbone bolts from subframe, leaving shock absorber attached)

Finished second rear brake overhaul. Car now moves and stops. Handbrake still ineffective but will be adjusted “right up tight” day before MOT. Saved hundreds on workshop time. :). Invested those savings in impact driver :D
Bonus opportunity to invest in new rear tyres after finding screw in one.

Thanks to “the owner” for advice. Screw extractor dug out calliper bolt. Impressive on a circular Allen cap head fastener.

Today I are mainly been handbrake fettling;

Twiddling the adjuster through pencil hole in brake disk
Trying to remember up or down
Aiming to only just turn wheels - with handbrake *off*

Will never listen to any complaint about electric handbrake.

How did we get skyhook suspension, variable valve timing AND brass thumbwheel adjusted handbrake on the same car?

Turn the adjuster till it locks the drum then flick off three times and you should be good. Believe me, it’s easier than the 4200 handbrake with stretched cables

Thanks Matt. The handbrake is now working but might benefit from another tweak once it has bedded in.

New issue arrives before MOT - "Headlight levelling" :roll eyes:

Finally addressed the bubbles up leather on the steering wheel airbag, while I had it apart for the heater core.
Turns out the leather was not attached to the airbag at all, so all I had to do was lift it up, apply adhesive, pull it taut and clip the edges using office binding clips and let it sit overnight.

Not perfect, I’ve seen others on here who got a new piece of leather and made it so, but I know my limitations.

Just suffered sudden battery failure on my GT. started and drove fine on Saturday and Sunday doing 2 35 mile runs. Sat for 3 days and completely dead (no alarm or central locking etc. this afternoon). Luckily I tend to pop the boot when I park it in the garage ready to plug in my ctek so I have access to the battery and have put the ctek on allowing me to disable the alarm. I’m going to replace the battery as once they get this flat I wouldn’t trust it to recover.

Any recommendations on the replacement, and should I be worried by the suggestion failure? There was no previous signs of failing battery to the best of my knowledge and nothing seems to have been left switched on like sidelights.

Sometimes just happens like that. I think Bosch S5 usually best from my experience and 5 year warranty.

Cheers Dicky. Will order one. Looks like the same one I put in the 911 and that seems to have held up well
