What's involved in a full service?

I've had my 2010 grab cabrio for just under a year now and it is due for a full / big service.
I contacted 3 Maserati dealers in a radius of 30 miles from my house to see what availability they have and was rather disappointed to find that two didn't even bother to call me back and the third has quoted me a date of mid April and £2,400.
Ok I know it's a top of the range high performance sports car but that price sounded a bit OTT
So I started to wonder what on earth they do for this type of money, can anyone enlighten me please?

If you have a look in your service handbook it will list what is being done.

The basic fluid and filter service makes about a third of your quoted price plus the gearbox oil, coolant, brake and power steering fluid will add another £500. The other items are the Lambda sensors of which there are 4 and from memory are circa £200 each.

Also they will find other items so you can add another grand to the quoted service price.

Most people do not replace the Lambda sensors, as their lifetime is based on mileage (circa 75k miles) and not age and a dash warning light will come on when each one expires. It will not alter the cars driving performance.

You can also elect not to have certain minor fluids replaced, it's up to you but half the price quoted is a more realistic figure and you can also take it to a specialist in your area.

Amersham in Bucks.
There is a garage near me and the guy who runs it used to work for Lamborghini, he's got a very good reputation around these parts so I had a word with him and he's happy to deal with the car for me. I haven't booked anything with him yet though so any other recommendations welcome.

Get some quotes of independents:
Roberto Grimaldi
Emblem (south coast)
Maserati Shed (south coast)
Autofficina (Surrey)

All of the above are well respected.

Maranello in Egham will price match a written personalised quote from an independent should you wish to go down the dealer route.

I'm not far from you - Chorleywood. My GranSport goes to Autoshield in Manchester and my Ghibli goes to Ridgeway (MD) in Oxford - try them, they're very good. Don't bother with HR Owen - they e expensive, don't seem interested and will drive your car from St Albans into London to their service centre in Park Royal!

So I got the Gran Cabrio serviced yesterday having bought the service kit and various oils as recommended in the manual. All the parts (not spark plugs, as the car has only done 7,800 miles from new) including fluids, oils etc cost around £700 tops.
My local mechanic, the guy who used to work for Lamborghini did the service and charged me £150.00 and it took him around 4 hours to do. I can't understand why the main dealer wanted to have the car for at least 3 days and why it was going to cost £2,400 + vat

I'm with you , almost £3000 to service a car is a ridiculous amount of money , if you're keeping the car having a main dealer stamp in the book isn't worth a carrot as long you know you've had it serviced correctly

However if you want to sell it then it may have an impact on how easy it is to sell not having a recognised stamp in the book on such a new car

6 years nearly, done every bit of my own servicing, as I'm not selling I have no problem, at least I know the filters are changed!

Glad you are happy, that's what matters for all of us but no idea of where the £2400+VAT came from as I'm not used to prices being quoted ex VAT. Price wise it only begins to make sense if your car did not have the items done at 4 years old which are additional to the 2 (or indeed 6) year items.

FWIW main dealers tend to ask £1700 for a 2 or 6 year service or £2500 (all incl VAT) for a 4 or 8 year but they do haggle. Prices include tracking which you would not have had, ditto software updates and warranty replacements of any items if you have an extended warranty.

Spark plugs are not due to 75k or 12 years IIRC.

Hi all, hope you don't mind the thread resurrection. I'm also looking for a service for a 4200 Spyder, in the North London/South Herts area. HR Owen in Park Royal would actually be quite convenient for me but I noted the bad feedback above. Autorevive look promising as well. McGrath are booked up until late June. Central London would be OK for me as well. Any other suggestions before I start calling round? Many thanks in advance.

Felice Real at Sunnyside is more than capable of doing a full service on a 4200. He's based in Chadwell Heath. Not going to be a McGrath or HR Owen experience, but also not going to have their prices.

Many thanks Catman, and also for the PM I received from another member. Very helpful suggestions so I have a few options to follow up now.
