The smaller GranTurismo actually appeals to me as the size was the main reason I am still in a GS and not gone full bore for a Strad.

Would prefer V8 but it's looking like V6TT it's going to be. If it has Alfieri styling ques, I am in.

Electric Maserati on the other hand, you can poke that up your ****!

Household items should be electric, anything used outside should be piston based!

Agree, Maserati is much about noise which means petrol.

I doubt the smaller GranTurismo will have the rear seat space of the 4200/GS which means I am likely to be changing brands when my current car goes. Shame as with three Maserati coupes I have now totalled nearly 80,000 miles. Will wait until passing 100,000 before moving on!

Really? They can't get their act together to launch the Alfieri until at least 5 years after showing it and we're to think that they'll have an all electric version ready for a year later. Ha.

Unless Tesla is buying Maserati, or they have seriously underestimated the range in a set of AA Duracells, I suspect this will not ever happen/be delayed for ages/not look anything like this at all.

Anyone can write a press release. Any CEO can say what they like. Not even the Daily Mail believe this one.

I don't see the Electric power train unless they buy it in. FCA doesn't seem to have a reliable hybrid never mind all electric.

As to the engines. I can see the GT having a V6TT as then as model but that new V8TT will go in it as well. If it doesn't then the new will will have less power than the old one. Just isn't going to happen.

Spot on Outrun....If they are thinking electric then it will be 10 years before they have that ready.

They have just (or about to launch) a Chrysler Pacifica with a V6 and plug in hybrid drivetrain..

http://www.caranddriver.com/news/2017-chrysler-pacifica-pacifica-plug-in-hybrid-full-info-news

The Pacifica hybrid—the first gas-electric minivan in our market, by the way—uses a 3.6-liter V-6, a 16-kWh battery pack, and a twin-electric-motor setup to produce 260 total system horsepower, as well as to deliver 80 MPGe in the city (no highway number was released). The battery pack is located under the second-row floor (which means no Stow ’n Go seating there), and Chrysler says a 240-volt electrical hookup can replenish it completely in as little as two hours. Electric-only range is stated to be 30 miles. The hybrid system also uses a Chrysler-designed dual-motor transmission that, in the latest plug-in-hybrid whizbangery, incorporates two electric motors that can both be called upon to drive the front wheels via clutches, rather than devoting one solely to recapturing energy, as in older systems.

What happens to all these electric drivetrain batteries when they need to be replaced? Are they replenished, refurbished or recycled?

Is the environment richer & saved due to all these new electric power trains? We still have to produce all the battery packs in the first place. Most only seem to last 5 years & we still need to produce/consume electricity to charge them.

They don't sound like a planet saver to me. What happened to hydrogen?

If they can get the motors in the Alfieri to work in conjunction with the petrol engine...ala KERS system for extra horsepower, then I would be interested but it would appear its going to be electric only.

Dead right Hydrogen is the only real alternative.
A company called ITM quoted on the LSE have been signing customers up for this.
11 stations have been built somewhere near London with filling times of about 10 minutes and a 300 mile range.for the fuel cell driven cars.
That beats the pants of the Nissan Leaf etc

Yes a mate of mine is all over their shares and has been for 3 years...its the future but guess the big corporates have to flog us all their R&D electric shite before giving us what we want.

You will also be able to generate your own Hydrogen, there are home kits available...god knows how many domestic garages will explode!

That Alfieri looks out of date already to me . It needs to be totally re designed . It will look nothing like the concept car apart from a few nods here and there hopefully .

I am dallying with the thought of a purchase of ITM shares too - just a small amount though

Looking at the shares since their launch they hit a peak in 2006 around 360p but have dropped since. There's definitely an upward trend since April 2016 (12p) to date(23p).
