.. and it was sluggish, touch screen needed well prodding and I lost all the Cadillac driver stuff to setup the dashboard et

This would have been a resistive screen - the screen presses onto another layer to transmit the instruction. Hence, losing the original functionality.

uses a clear screen on top of it to display the car play functionality.

Whereas, the screen used here is capacitive. The same type used in most phones, tablets, etc. now. The screen is merely an overlay and won't have capability to display as suggested above. You need a digitiser for that.

Reading the presentation carefully they reference the output quality being limited to that of the factory screen. I don't know if the factory unit has a video-in option but whatever base android system they are using it has been connected to the original screen.

A rather simple yet elegant idea. It might be worth asking the vendor if they will supply their software with the ability to load other apps too.

I’m 100% interested in this so any progress on a group buy keep me posted. Next bit finding someone competent enough to install it

So we all love this, and I think that the price seems reasonable - I am now thinking who could we get to fit this as I have drawn a couple of blanks so far from local ICE specialists...

I can't see it's going to be that hard, honesty. My usual price is a bottle of malt and full indemnity....

Did a couple of Parrot kit installs for 4200 owners. The only piece I'm thinking of here is the removal of the bezel which I'm pretty sure one of our chaps can give some pointers on.

...and you seem to be fairly close by.

You're a good man, Chris. Wise and noble and true. And quite tall.

Who's your guinea pig? Whilst this is sod all use to me now, it looks really good and I look forward to seeing one in action.

Only quite tall? Are you wearing Geoff's heels again? ;)

I've just mailed them to see if I can get an install manual.

Cheers

Might be worth buying one kit first as I’ve heard from someone else they allegedly had customer support issues in the past. I’ve not bought from them so can’t comment personally.

Thinking about it if its Car Play (and it is for the earlier QPV's) it must use your iPhone as the gadget, not a separate unit buried in the dash. The Android one for other models may well be a Raspberry Pi but I'm no fan of either.

The iPhone will drive the car play, but there needs to be something for it to connect to, as it were.

The bottle of malt ain't a problem and nor is distance - the full indemnity we need to explore!

I'm happy to order one of these and try and get it here and installed pre-Le Mans. Let me know if anyone gets contact from them as a result of this thread first though. I'll wait a couple of days and see if that happens.

I suspect that the esteemed member formerly known simply as Catman would baulk at nipping up to install it but you never know....whisky and encouragement supplied.

Athol, indeed. With a bit more time, it wouldn't be impossible though :(

Not the most useful answer from them, but at least they answered

I asked Skipton Car Audio who are one of the best audio teams in the country, they said they would but thought it best to liaise with Aus first.
