for some reason i,m struggling to create a new post but will attach it here and see?
Does any one know what starter motor can be fitted to a 3200gt auto as a replacement with the correct gear teeth? i,m aware that the original is a valeo D6RA64 and the body is the same fitting on a number of smaller cars peugeot citroen lancia vauxhall BMW Mitsubishi etc but they seem to have 10 and 11 teeth and not 9 on the Maserati one? Many years ago with my first 3200 it failed due to the normal magnets coming adrift from heat in the v of the engine as many do and jamming it. i remember with the help of my local uni-part dealer i managed to get one trade price at £36 plus vat but for the life of me cant remember what the part number or car it was from.
what i understand Bosch dont actually do a starter that is interchangeable with the Maserati nose piece so that limits it to a valeo or chinese one with the magnets clipped in the later of which i,d rather not use due to the knowledge of inferior quality components (not that valeo is much better) and looking inside one you can see the armature isnt built to the same standards
the concern is that i,m pretty sure over a period of time the 10 or 11 teeth model would not mesh correctly with the starter ring gear an therefore in future would possibly require changing?, that i,d like to avoid if at all possible
so with the 2 units i purchased set about swapping over the pinion drive gear and bodies etc but to no avail as the chinese one has a different pitch spiral and the other genuine valeo unit d6ra has a different drive spline on the armature with finer and less pronounced teeth as the original Maserati one
i understand that there are 0.9kw 1.1kw 1.3kw 1.4kw and 1.9 kw variants of the D6RA style but dont know which power the original one is rated at?
any advise on this would be appreciated
