Gransport wanted

Hi all,

1st post here. I am looking to buy a GS. Budget of up to £20k for best spec/colour/ history examples. I ideally want a low and sub 50k mileage with a proper full service history which has all the common and age related work done as part of ongoing maintenance. Ideally already opted for the Formula dynamics module for the better shifting etc with decent suspension and non corroded lines..I thought I would join here as enthusiasts,...you know, look after their cars and do tasteful mods :)

Ideally looking for grey, black or red with leather interior, ideally a pre April 2006 reg car.

I can see prices are not what they once were with the recently burst bubble, so being realistic I think on the budget front, and looking for that diamond that I can cherish for a few years. I am searching the usual autotrader and classic car type sites,....pistonheads is just overpriced cars sitting there for long periods of time.

I just sold a Jag F type R AWD, and had the recent M5 before that. Now other than my daily, I have a 35is Z4, and want to add the GS to the weekend options list.

Hope to find a nice example here and be an active member on this forum.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks Andy.

I looked at that, seems a little expensive still based on the colour scheme, I would consider it at the right price however. I didn't want to ask on price as it started off above £25k

Morning Steve,

Good luck with your search, and well done on picking (IMO) the best of the current crop of Maserati’s. I personally think the car in the link provided by Andy (Zag) is an absolute bargain at £22k...

Whilst prices have dropped quite a bit recently, quality GS’s with low mileage and good histories are still likely to be more than £20k.... There’s also not that many of them around as lots of owners are keeping hold of them due to there not being much that offers the same blend of 4 seats, great looks, V8 noise, etc...

Hi Steve

I agree with Jon!.........I know it is not in your price range or in the colours you want, but IMO that is a stunning and very rare colour. This GS sounds like the bargain of the century and I'm shocked it hasn't been swept up yet!!
BTW...........Welcome to the forum!!

There are a lot of GS's about at the moment, but like all Maserati's by the best you can.
Otherwise, they have a nasty habit of biting yer ***.

Speak to Dicky Grace and AV Engineering, and get Aldous (at AV) to do an inspection before you buy. That's a must.

Agree. This car has to be worth a look given your criteria and looking at others for sale at the moment. There was no burst bubble on these cars, they never really got to the heights they deserved compared to other marques. Those marques are the ones that are falling in price, GS have remained relatively firm in these uncertain times. Focus less on initial purchase price, £18K vs £25K will not matter much if you buy wrong. Buy the best you can.

Welcome.
Great choice of car and describes mine down to the bone... however I would not consider letting mine go for the price suggested, even in the current market.

As you say in your post you are looking at a well sorted car and, although you can get sub £20k cars, they are in the majority less well kept that you or any other canny buyers would like to own.

I do wish you luck and hope you find 'the one'

Thanks guys.

I dont see that blue one at £21k, unfortunately, but that's just me. Shame as there seems to be a lot of good things said about it here. Does it have the FD module and additional maintenance work done .?
Servicing certainly seems to be done annually which is good.

Good luck in your search, no doubt something will turn up and the advice above is valid, buy the best you can and get it checked by an expert - these tips will save you much more than they initially cost in the long run

Welcome Maseratiland. The GS is a great car, as long as you buy a good one. Personally I'd not want a GS at below £20k, as I don't think one of the standard I'd require would be achievable at that price. But you only need to go a smidge over that magic hurdle and a world of possibilities opens. My advice would be not miss on the right car for the sake of a few grand.

Anyway, happy hunting, and do post a few pictures of your new toy in due course.

Agree with the above comments. You don’t want a bad car just to save a couple of £1k.

The blue car in the link above looks a bargain at £22k. I’d advise speaking to Richard Grace about it, if he sold it then I’m sure it’s a great car.

Yes good idea. I have reached out. Does anyone know how many owners that car has had ?

I'd be less hung up on the FD DBW module to be honest. Many don't have it and IMHO it doesn't need it. The GS is fine as it is.

Echo everything everyone has said to date in that the difference in upfront cost between a good and bad one is much less than the quickly realised cost if a bad one needs lots of cash spending. It can be errorded quite quickly even neutralised if not reversed sometimes if you get unlucky.
