Setting PIS

I've received a few requests from folks from DM over the last few months on using the Launch X431 to set the PIS on their car.
I tried to document the steps, and also give a bit of theory on what it is and why we're setting it. I'll try and be adding more details on other functions of this scan tool.

At the very least if you're interested in how the X431 works, have a look.

Nice tutorial.

I think you might need to update your clutch wear calculation though.

The 4200 uses a twin plate clutch (two friction discs) which are apparently 6.34 mm when new and 5.34 mm when fully worn, giving a maximum wear of 1mm per disc, 2mm overall so the TCU calculation should use 2mm disc wear as 100%.

There is however leverage in the pressure plate so 1mm of release bearing movement won't correspond to 1mm of pressure plate movement.

Cheers,

Simon

Thanks you're right. Corrected the wording.

Note my math is based on back calculating compared to a SD2 (using 5.62mm as the max)

Just as a point of reference, here are my clutch readings taken last week. Came back from a 250 mi trip today.

No problem, interesting that the 5.62 is the maximum. Probably worth clarifying that the 1.32mm is throw-out movement rather than clutch thickness. Assuming that the max wear is 2mm and the max movement is 5.62mm, actual clutch wear would be 2/5.62 x 1.32 = 0.47mm (23%)

Cheers,

Simon
