Hi all,

Glad to have discovered this forum. I am a new proud owner of a 3200 GT. Hope I am posting in the right section of the forum!

I have just noticed that there seems to be some rust above the wheel arch (see attached pics).

How bad does this look? Anyone experienced something similar and how much was it to fix (also where did you go?)

Ecco

Welcome to the madness. Post up some more pics when you can. Surface rust by the looks of it. Needs sorting ASAP. Will need paint and looking at the swirls you may have to machine the rest to get a decent match to the new stuff.

Happens to them all, if it hasn't already it will given time, don't think it's a big issue that any decent body shop couldn't deal with, those corroded wheel bolts though ;)

Mine was the same and door rear corners. I am resigned to getting them done every few years.

Don't quite understand "only just noticed" and "seems to be".............. surely it was obvious when you bought it? All that rust didn't happen over night.

the steel under that paint should still be fine but probably rust pitted and thinned the steel a tad, no big deal as long as you get it sorted fairly soon, just make sure whoever takes care of the repair fully treats the rust with a good quality rust inhibitor once all cleaned up otherwise it will just come back again, bilt hamber do good rust prevention products

Agree 100% L2S!.....Another tip would be to treat the exposed edges and inner parts of the wings where the dirt settles with a Silicon based product for further protection.

It starts on the arch inner edges due to stone chips and if not spotted / treated eventually will stray beyond the lip on to the outer visible wing. About every 4-5 years I have the inner edges touched up which can be neatly done without touching the visible outer bodywork.
Agree it should be easily fixed.

Worth checking on a regular basis.

always be checking inner arch lips and mud traps/ledges and raking/washing out, otherwise damp just sits trapped in between all the cr4p over the years and hey presto rust creeps in and works its magic

As long as it has not been repaired previously it should have lots of metal to base the repair on... blending may be more of a challenge.

I am the same I put my car into a local body shop every few years and get the rust sorted out, its worth keeping on top of. the rear boot lid and just where the panels below the rear lights meet the rear bumper also suffer. if you get chips on the doors where they catch walls and stuff these also blister up, and best to get it sorted ASAP.

I also clean and spray the underside every 6 months or so and clean treat and paint any rough bits and finally apply a rustproofing spray to the whole underside, they are 20+ years old its a constant battle.
