Amazing we had Concorde on the one hand and Austin Maxi (or what ever it is) on the other.
Eb

For 1969 the Maxi was proper forward thinking. A mid sized car with a hatchback, fold down seats, level load space and seating for 5.

I do recall, it worked then or you wouldn't be on here!
Header tanks, not recently, however sometimes I can't bite my tongue any longer!!
Got my Stag out yesterday and warmed her through on the drive, it was dry but started to snow with bright sunshine, weird, however the roads where covered in salt so didn't go for a spin!
Likewise with the Maserati.
Good job the retired neighbours like noisy V8's!!
I would've loved to kept my last stag unfortunately it had to be sold to fund my dream car a Maserati. Glad to hear your still enjoying both.
My last one here.

It was indeed just BL build quality and they put the oil filter in a very vulnérable place with many owners knocking them off on kerbs in car parks.

Nothing wrong with BL design but the implementation and build was what let them down, in 1975 this was as shocking to the world as the E type was in 1961

The Budget stuff was shockingly put together.
Jaguar and Daimler in my opinion was pretty good and I've had 5 from that era.
Like you I'm looking at the XJS myself now.

I'm trying to ignore the draw, fortunately I keep telling myself the early models (pre HE) look the best which is stopping me looking at the cheapish 4.0 AJ6 versions from the early 90s. Early models are hard to find and are pricey enough to stop the on a whim purchase.

Alternatively a S1 XJ6 with the rocker switch dash could tempt me
